Someone put the HTFU video on their CQ TV and it was on the front page of "Eve is real" site.

That should answer the question effectively.

CCP Facebook linked to a video where someone used the final scene of the movie The Great Dictator in their CQ. I'm not sure if they actually are for people modifying the client since it could cause headaches for CCP because of inept people messing up the client, then yelling for help, but I haven't really seen anything yet telling people they cannot do it.

I'd say it should be a bannable offense. Let's say you could add videos. Then your corp could order you to watch a certain video of a battle or something. If that happened, you would have to load your CQ. That is griefing. Intentionally ruining someone's gameplay by making participate in that atrocity.

Technically it could be considered an EULA violation, but it makes for some really cool YouTube videos Twisted and I always suggest it to the Incarna Devs that this needs to be made into an actual feature.

Now keep in mind that the official rulings on EULA and TOS violations are decided by the GMs so if you haven't filed a petition and want some more information on this I suggest you bring it up with the GMs.

I really appreciate the reply. Can you confirm or deny that they are considering this? As a community representative I think you will be representing a good amount of players when you tell them we would like this implemented. And it could also bring more people to like the CQ which IMO is a good thing considering how many people don't like it.

I know they are at least considering it. The discussion we had on it was all, "THIS IS AWESOME" and nobody disliked the idea of adding this, or something similar, to the CQ screen. Personally I'd like to see corporations and alliances make recruitment videos that can be broadcasted to other player's quarters and of course other player videos like Clear Skies or Spaceships are Magic. I'll poke around on Monday and see if I can find out any more information.

I'd like to report a bug. After liking your post it shows up with an "unlike" button. One should not be able to unlike a post referring to clear skies and ponies.

The only problem I can see is if people load clips from say movies or TV shows which could then break copyright laws.

What, like a jukebox and potentially pirated music?

wouldn't be more illegal than playing the clips in your local movie player...

If you end up against some "upper management" types who want to put the kabosh on this, you need only go to the player base for support. There is something very cool about being able to port videos into CQ and with further development, players will be able to set up channels, have recruitment videos, and such things as you mention, without having to draw on the game resources.
However I sense that there are dark forces of yuppiedom at work in every aspect of life that always finds a reason to deny what is good in the world, and then repackage it and sell it back to us at half the strength and twice the cost. Just let us port Youtube or whatever video stream into the client, even a VLC player port (anyone can set up streaming with VLC media player - Eve Radio stream can be ported by a player), and the players will do the rest. Don't let some bean-counter or lawyer-minded sort prevent this.

Is making it so that you can watch your own videos in the CQ a violation of the EULA or a Banable action?

Example of this action

I would really like to get some input on this and I'm sure others would as well.

You guys have been very active today don't let us down now.

I think it is,

But I highly doubt CCP would want to ban paying customers because they want to watch what they want in their own captains quarters.

Very true but CCP could not be held liable for what you play on your own computer.

I would love to be able to stream video in Eve.. I could watch the football in my own Quarters :)

Tbh, this probably would be a good way to get actual players to load the CQ enviroment, instead of staring at the door while docked option, btw I still want ship spinning. But it might lead the way in players using it more.

For those looking for proof of possible future custom video features, there's been a video sub folder in the eve cache folder since August or so.

I can't wait to hear the official word on this. I think it would go a long way to changing peoples ideas about Incarna. It would also be very cool to have video channels (similar to Eve Radio) integrated into the game...
