Can anybody point me to any rook guidelines? What I would like to know is what their combat paramaters are in solo and small group combat -- who they can/should engage and who they should avoid..

You should biomass all rook pilots.

So I've found that the Rook works better one you don't fly it like a Falcon. Buy that I mean instead of using 3-5 racial jammers and trying to suppress as many targets as possible, the Rook (for me at least on sisi) fairs better using 1-3 mutli jammers and ECM drones to suppress one target. they fair well in small gang, tho their presents will make opponents reluctant to engage. Also a tiny armour tank like a Falcon will not fair well, that is if your going to stay on field with the rest of the gang.
The builds I've been trying are a shield tanked, 2 multi jammers and a flight of ECM drones, HML's and ECM ups in the lows.

hope that helps

You should biomass yourself.

@OP, only fit multispecs and tackle if you are going to engage solo targets at short-rang, and then make sure to have 4 multis. Otherwise, rainbow rack of racials is stricly better. For fleet support, god-damn yes fly it like a Falcon. Keep at your optimals and jam from range. Rook has the highest jammer strength bonuses of any ship except the Widow. Use it.

If anything comes towards you, gtfo. That is all.

I fly the rook as if it's a hybrid between the falcon and a cerb (because it is). In rather large fleets it may not have the amount of mids dedicated to ECM modules as a falcon would, but it can hold it's own should shield cruisers like vagabonds, cynabals and such come to harras you and force you off the field. It has higher sensor strength than a falcon and can dps in any type of damage it wants to. I've had a few engagements where I jam out the enemy falcon and then dps it, forcing it off the field. If the falcon jams you, load f.o.f and lob missiles at it until it leaves the field Big smile. Combined with a drone bay, ECM, and 5 heavy missile launchers it has a lot of staying power. Many falcons just jam and pray they don't miss one when shield hacs or frigs come to harras them. The rook doesn't have to count on only jams.

P.S. Most ECM pilots just don't have the balls to fly the rook because their crutch, the covert ops cloak, cannot be used Lol

The Rook can be a beast in home defence fleets and solo/small gangs. I usually fit 1 Matari and 1-2 Multi's for ECM, shield tanked prop and a point with HML's. If I have intel on what they're flying I fit to counter.

I usually get on the top 3 for damage and I know I'm the top on the hate list for jamming them out.

Rooks are fun, you just have to stop thinking they are a falcon and sheild tank them.

this. The Rook is a combat ship and should be used as such. does better damage and has better range than caracal. 1-3 mids jammers max. deploy 100K off engagement and spam HM and ECM.
proper deployment is with support element, which ideally is a CNC or 2 and a Naga or 2 100 K off main body of fleet in support. The purpose of this group is first to jam and clear enemy support off the field, then go to work on the primaries after they are gone.rook deployed with CNC has a bit of small drone support between them if some bold ceptor pilot tries to come out and tackle, keep drones held back by you for defense agaisnt enemy tackle.throw a naga out their with them and smash enemy support and watch the tears.Nagas and CNCs and cerbs are your friends, as they all move about the same speed , similar tanks and similar ranges.be fancy and hold a hookbill back for defense.remember, it's a combat ship, not a falcon and dont stuff it with jammers. Give it a tank and use the HM fire.

They function decently as ratter gankers and sometimes for 1v1s, but that's the exception and not the rule. There's a reason why no one flies them.

Rook is not good solo ship, no one is going to fight against unless they are absolutely sure they can take it down.

Also its stats are bit poor to force enemies fight when you want, example scan resolution is too low to catch targets on gate.

I recommend some other ship for solo pvp.

For small gang it is also not so good, when enemy sees jamming ships they just bring more people to ensure fight can go on.
Then you wonder why people only blob you.

These are the reasons why Rooks aren't used much in combat. An ECM ship without a cloak gives too much intel to the enemy.

In the end it comes down to the fact that ECM PREVENTS FIGHTS FROM HAPPENING - at best it causes blobbing or escalation (i.e. They have a Rook/Falcon so we'll bring two!)

This is the best use for them - home defence where you can counter an enemy fleet and ideally remain out of sight (i.e. docked, at a jump bridge, on a titan etc) until needed to prevent the enemy knowing you're there. Once you've been spotted you'll become the next primary target and they'll be forced to revise their battleplan (or even just run away).

Big smile That's a bit unfair! But it's true that ECM is just a bad game mechanic per se. It would be better if CCP just replaced it with something else. Don't even let me get started on the problems with ECM drones.....
