If I do a level IV mission and take my buddy with me with who cannot get said mission due to lower standings, then share the rewards at the end, does he/she get the same faction increase as me?

Faction standing modification is applied to the one completing the mission when talking to an agent.

Hang on. So, when I hand in the mission is when it says split reward. Is the corp/faction standing increase considered a reward of the mission?

Faction is only gained from storyline missions, that isnt's split between fleet memebers, every other reward from missions is though. You can help them gain better standing with the NPC corp and agent to run their own missions but to gain faction standing they'll have to run their own storylines.

The rewards are split evenly, not increased and applied for each member of the fleet, this would result in fleets of people all getting the full pay and lp reward.

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

Confirming:

On normal missions from an agent you can decide to share rewards:

If the agent rewards you 1mil ISK, 1000 LP and a 2.0 standing increase (for instance) and you split the mission reward with 2 people each person gets: 500k ISK, 500 LP and a 1.0 standing increase.

Storylines (faction standing) rewards work different, faction standings are only rewarded to the pilot who accepted the storyline mission. If other pilots want faction standings they have to do their own storyline missions.

Keep in mind splitting rewards for missions only work if the fleet is less then 10 people, if you have 11 or more people the split rewards go to the first 10 persons in the fleet list no matter if the person who were with you in the mission are at positions 11 or below were also with you in the mission.
