Do it, don't joke about it, don't even think about it, just do it.

I don't know about using the forums for pre-election. Especially because you can like a single post with all characters you own. I don't think your amount of votes should depend on how many characters you own. And if you can just constantly recycle forum alts for this purpose, then Ugh. Why can it not just be in the usual election voting way?
Also, I never liked the 1 account=1 vote. It's too plutocratic for my tastes.

It would be interesting to get someone to talk for hisec or WiS.

But I don't trust it's gonna happen. Now that the CSM proved to be more influential, the push to get a tighter nullsec grip on it will be even harder than before.

Well... if 100% of players would vote, there would be more hisec representatives than nullsecs ones. However past years have kinda proved that most unorganized players do not vote - hence the big alliances will continue to have edge...

...unless CCP makes voting semi mandatory in login or something. This could be done with question "you have not given your vote in CSM election yet, would you like to select a candidate and vote now?, yes, no (don't ask me again), later (ask me again in next login) and redirect to voting page.

You should...

I would vote you but unfortunately Meissa is going to run again and I've already decided to support her re-election solely because she likes to dig into difficult things and research all the facts and opinions before making decisions. Even while she would not have personal agenda in something.

However I am sure that also you, Chribba, will have enough support to get you through and make good and fair addition to the crew. Best of luck.

Well, i kind of was more fond of having voted Meissa until I wrote him about WiS and, well... i am still waiting for an answer.

In all seriousness this time...

Why not have simple polling questions, maybe something like 3-5 true/false or multiple choice questions, that pop up every time one logs into the game? These can be compiled into workable data and the players will be directly representing themselves without the need for anyone to unfairly push an agenda. The questions themselves can be written by CCP Devs or the players themselves if a space was provided at the bottom of the poll, and the answers should be gathered in a confidential manner so players can feel free to be as honest as possible. Given an option to answer any, or all, or none of those questions would show interest on those particular points being polled and CCP could thus do away completely with the CSM and deal directly with it's player base in an informed and non invasive fashion.
The idea of censoring questions will no doubt be raised, but I think it best to not censor any of the questions and let the chips fall where they may- it might well be yet another truly unique innovation in human interaction via gamespace for EVE to claim.

This.

Obviously you can't have a free for all with everyone posting questions for the polls, and every log in may be a bit much but the concept is sound. Maybe have a weekly hit list of questions people can choose to respond to or not. If they are multiple choice then the results are easily tabulated and you can easily limit it to 1 vote per active account to avoid alt spam.

This would be a fairly easy barometer to gauge peoples preferences and priorities as well as a way to compare the responses of the masses to the opinions of the CSM. The CSM has the potential to offer a valuable service to both EVE and to CCP in the granularity and explanation of certain opinions and priorities. I do however agree with the general consensus that the current election processes do not necessarily assure a balanced range of viewpoints on the CSM. This could be a very valuable tool for CCP to help with design decisions before they get to far along.

I would further add that the results of this type of weekly (or whatever interval) voting be made public so everyone can see the results. This will give the player base the ability to see for themselves what the opinions and preferences of the masses are. This can quickly prove / disprove any disparities, reduce trolling, give everyone empirical data as to the mood / thoughts of the rest of the player base, and overall give people a better sense of having a say in the game they love.

Yep. I told CCP Xhagen and CCP Diagoras it was kind of pointless. Oh well, it will be interesting to see what happens.

I can trivially write a Poll to come out any way I want. Just like that Texas Legislator got the legislature to almost pass a resolution praising the Boston Strangler (he pulled it right before it officially passed, but after it had enough votes) by writing it in creative language.

The CSM was intended to be a check on CCP's idiocy machine (everyone's got one, some just hide it out back), so having CCP write the questions that are going to be used to be a check on their idiocy machine is, well, idiotic.

You know, it's sarcastically hilarious that we are talking about elections in a year that will be nothing but the 2012 US Presidential election. It's bad enough I have to suffer grueling attack ads that mislead with politicians that don't sound smart. Now we Americans have to suffer another election at the same time.

We've already had ~7 months of primary pie-fighting. On occasion I had forgotten that it wasn't an election year yet.

I never cared about the CSM before, but that has changed since the current CSM obviously had a big impact in turning EVE around. So now I need information to become a qualified voter. How and where will I get it?

Actually, voting for TheMittani would be a no-brainer for me. But I assume he will be elected anyway, and chairman too, having thousands of his subjects behind him and all that. So I wonder if some of the others are especially deserving of re-election. I'd want to make sure that w-space residents are represented again, but I have no real idea how good a job the two w-space guys in the current CSM were doing.
