Nothing especialy wrong with them
Was it a good step?
For some of the modules, yes, for the ammo, no.
Was it necessary?
Definitly not, we're capable of remembering a number of different things, and if we forget we can always look it up under "show info". The name changes are, essentialy, insulting.

I feel insulted and I miss my Scourge Fury's

I prefer old names. I'm used to them and they were unique. Renaming missiles is bad. :S

Everyone knows the module statistics tab is where the real 'name' is. Damage type percentages are what blow ships up, or stupid pilots I suppose, not what the manufacturer painted on the warhead.

Meh, I'll miss YT8, but but whatever. It is what it is, you know? I suppose the people that don't like it can riot in Jita again. P

I would do that...

But honestly, this wont stop here, soon we will have all streamlined namings with no meanings and no soul left to it.

Clear HELL NO on all 3 from myself, but what about YOU?!?

[edit:]

From reading what people post, and thinking about it:

This is NEX Store 2.0!

This is squeezing cold hard cash out of EVE at the expense of us players!

Taking away substance, just to make the game more appealing to the wow-crowd!

Be prepared to have ALL modules named the same, soon!

Confirming that my no is also hellish.

There is still people at CCP who go with their way and fail to deal and act when there is fallout.

Now it is surely better to wait out few days and see if this all goes away by itself. Waiting will make people happier and makes wonders to the raising subscription numbers. The standard CCP policy when someone hits brick wall and refuses to admit it.

You know I'd understand the annoyance with the simplification if the old names presented any useful information about the item whatsoever. Like, if from the name Cold-Gas Arcjet Thrusters, I could somehow deduce something about the item from that name alone.

But you can't. Cold-Gas Arcjet Thrusters tells me literally nothing. It doesn't even tell me what KIND of module it is - It's probably related to propulsion. That's about as close as it gets.

What horrifies me is that CCP might actually listen to the people complaining about this and we'll be left with Hydrocarbon Flux Assistance Protocol Mainframe Interface Drive Capacitor Warfare Field Stasis Systems for all of eternity, because some of you apparently really like random prefixes.

It improves the new player experiance, makes eve just that little bit less complicated, only downside, is if you search the damage type of the missile, its alot of scrolling...

Overall something we wont care about in a few weeks, much like the font :P

I still hate the ******* font, don't get me started...

So you want us to rename banana to tomato after several years and be cool with it?
(because that is what they did with the missiles)

Banana to Tomato is an arbitrary name change. Neither tells me anything.

If I know that all kinetic missiles have the prefix "trauma", that tells me something. It means I can predict the names of future kinetic missiles. Even if a new class of missile comes out that I've never seen before, I'll be able to tell the kinetic ones from the thermal ones because the kinetic ones will be named "trauma".

I'm really having trouble grasping why people are complaining about this. Of all the changes, of all the things, it seems like one of the pettiest complaints I've encountered.

When did simplification and clarification become bad? When did obfuscation become a good thing?

Because now our "scourge missile" as in banana is now called tomato and no one doesn't even know how to buy one.
People have lived with these names for years and know them in their dreams. Renaming them is plain stupidity and shows pure ignorance from someone working under CCP roof once again.

I'd agree with you if the naming convention was an arbitrary one, ie if they renamed ALL missiles to random things. But they didn't. It's easy to point to your scourge heavy missiles and talk about how dumb it is, but what about the thorn rockets and the bloodclaw missiles and the juggernaut torpedoes and the terror assault missiles?

Expand your view beyond the one item you use every day.

Are you honestly telling me you've never had a situation where you've had to look up the name of a module through the market instead of implicitly knowing what it was called based on its meta level?

I've been selling those things for years and know every single one like most of the stuff available in market.

If I need additional info about meta level I use either compare tool or enable meta level visibility in hangar.

This!

Call me lazy, but I really got used to those names, and beeing able to tell by the first word of the name, what kind it is, like "Scourge: Oh! It´s a Kinetic Heavy Missile!", was good, and there was NO need to change it!

It was maybe, just maybe, stupid to name them as they were in the first place, but having the dmg-type and size/type of the missile by just the first word, is something good!

Re-naming everything in a way that you can´t even tell this anymore, AFTER everyone and their dog memorized the names, THAT is stupid!

The compare tool requires you to find the base item and load up its variations. A naming convention would let you know what the name of a particular variation on an item was even if all you know about it is what kind of item it is and what its meta level is. You can not seriously tell me that has no practical benefits.

Even if you can tell the names of every single module off by heart because you've been running around the market for years, that's not a reasonable burden to impose on every other player.

Naming everything the same is better?

Everyone got used to it, and knew the names, you did not? Maybe train your brain a bit!

Sice when is EVE meant to be easy?!
