Hypothetical situation

Purely hypothetical, just something that I was wondering about, cause that's my hobby...wondering about things.

Besides the rush for a huge land grab, what do you think would happen if a large alliance simply just disappeared out in Nulsec? Doesn't matter which one, just one with a hefty chunk of real estate. I'm curious as to the ramifications.

Let the musing begin.

You could just, you know, read about the multiple times it has happened before due to espionage.

As the above poster mentioned, this has happened in the past... Where somebody in the upper ranks of the alliance turned traitor and essentially pushed the big red disband alliance button out of the blue.

Also when someone forgets to pay sov bills. /o\

As for what happens when an alliance just up and leaves, with no one still hanging around, I can refer to when IT bailed out of Deklein from personal experience - basically, it turned into a lukewarm landgrab, lots of people coming in but no one excited about the prospect of burning through all the infrastructure in order to stake their own claim. Delve is still kind of a clusterfuck, lots of smaller alliances living there.

Probably what happens whenever a big alliance disappears spontaneously (remember it's happened more than once!), everyone is going to try and make their own little bit of space in the galaxy. Either the following will happen.

A. Many smaller alliances claim a small amount of systems (less likely)
B. Massive alliances war over large amounts of systems and one eventually dominates the others. (Most likely)

Watch_ Fred Fred Frederation_ and stop cryptozoologist! Fight against the brutal genocide of fictional creatures across New Eden! Is that a metaphor? Probably not, but the fru-fru- people will sure love it!

Hypothetically speaking... anything.

I think the OP means what would happen if the alliance disappeared entirely, including their forces. It would probably end up being more or less the same situation as an unexpected disbanding though.

I'm talking completely disappeared...disapparated...vanished...do not exist. As in no remnants left to try and scramble to pick up the pieces. Because they are just completely gone.

Previous examples have the ones losing what they had moving to rebuild, so on and so forth. I'm talking complete and total disincorporation.

Thank you Iskawa!

I'd wonder if someone nuked eastern Europe.

WoW holds your hand until end game, and gives you a cookie whether you win or lose. EVE not only takes your cookie, but laughs at you for bringing one in the first place...

This does not happen because players do not just simply disappear, you cant stop players reforming an alliance either under the same name or a new one or just joining an alliance blue to the previous one. As people have said they either get disbanded and reformed or just join another one and retake the space under that alliance Roll

Well I mean.... There was that time when people got the power turned off to their house via RL sabotage to keep them out of a war. :P

I guess you could take it a step further and do something along those lines to EVERY SINGLE PLAYER in a mega alliance.

good luck planning an operation to attack the energy infrastructure of several dozen nations at several thousand points, all at once, without showing up on every terrorist watchlist on the planet.

Oh I didn't suggest it would be an easy task... But I've learned not to underestimate some of the psychopaths in this game. ;)

Pretend an alliance intelligence division discovers an exploit giving them an egde in combat. Pretend the alliance leadership forces all the grunts to use the exploit, potentially under threat of expulsion from the alliance. A month down the line, a major fight is won thanks to that exploit. CCP finds out, gets mad, bans everyone involved. Pretend that at that point that involves 99% of said alliance members.

What would happen?

I don't know, not much. The valuable moons would be claimed by powerblocks with forces nearby quite soon. Depending on how much they need the space and how much they mind the sov grind, they might take a constellation or two. The rest would be torn apart between the small x00 man groups willing to shoot structures for half a day just to get their name on the map.

Few months down the line, they get noticed by the power blocks, get either evicted, conquered, assimilated, or made into pets / renters / guests / allies (is there even any difference?) Life goes on as normal.
