T2 Rage Torpedoes Need A Look At

T2 Rage Torpedoes have a serious issue with how the potential DPS is not even close to the actual DPS done in combat. This is most obvious when my T1 torps do more DPS than the T2 Rage against most if not all T1 BS. The only time T2 Rage will actually do more DPS than T1 is if it has a TP and at that time you are still better off using faction ammo as it has more range and doesn't have a signature radius bonus to the ship you are in just from using the ammo. Also I will only be focusing on the explosion radius aspect of T2 rage.

Assumptions:

For a quick analysis of T1 BS sig radius I will look at the average of the T1 BS and how many of them reach 450 sig radius at that is the explosion radius for all other torpedoes. I will also assume that the T1 BS will either be Shield tanked (using 3 shield rigs with shield rig lvl V to lower drawback) or the ship will not be shield tanked. Since I am focusing only on the explosion radius all scenarios will assume that the ships in combat are not moving. The reason I am removing the speed aspect is that in combat you can handle the speed issue through a web and scramb against BS.

Analysis:

Avg of T1 BS shield tanked: 458 (excluding Caldari ships) 478 with all T1 BS
Avg of T1 BS not shield tanked: 407 (excluding Caldari ships) 425 with all T1 BS
Looking at the number of ships that are greater than or equal to the 450 explosion radius: Shield tanked ships (about 75% of the ships have meet the 450 mark, 66% not including caldari ships. For non shield tanked ships its (50% including caldari ships and not including caldari ships 33%)

So now looking at the actual DPS you can simply test things out on EFT but if you haven't done so it basically comes out to where using T1 ammo beats T2 rage in DPS on most BS if you dont have a TP. With one TP you beat T1 ammo but only reach or somewhat beat faction ammo. With 2 TP you reach max DPS which is roughly 100 or so more DPS than faction, thats terrible considering you need 2 midslots or friends as there are no rigs that modify torpedo explosion radius so your only option is a TP.

Suggestions:

Best case CCP does what they did with all other T2 ammo and give it a nice look over, but my idea would be that since the Rage ammo has less range and has that nasty signature bonus to your ship if you use the ammo the explosion radius should be at 450 or very close to 450. 450 really isn't that bad as it will allow you to do good DPS to BS but still have a hard time with anything smaller while using T2 ammo actually beats faction in most cases.

tl;dr: T2 rage torpedo ammo 99% of the time will get beat by T1 and Faction ammo in applied DPS unless you like having 1-2 TP on your ship. Thus they need to be buffed to allow the calculated DPS is closer to the applied DPS without so much TP need.
