Stutter after switching chat channels

Crucible has been awesome patch for me, no major problems whatsoever (unlike with Incarna). Graphics are way better because I can now use the medium setting instead of low on the shader options with ok fps and flying around seems somehow much "smoother". Font is great also!

Only annoyance is that every time I switch chat channels, I get a short freeze/stutter. Whole UI freezes for half a second and you have to wait before you can do anything. Reaaally annoying. Anyone else got this problem?

I have it too. Opening a new window like scan or market will cause a short freeze. Switching in tabs like chat or containers is a significant delay. Targeting animation also causes stutter and when targeting like 8 things at once you get a proper freeze.

And sometimes when trying to spin the ship when the UI stutters the mouse position gets locked. You move the cursor but it still thinks the mouse in that same spot. No fix but restarting client. And sometimes when you restart it the first place you click causes the cursor to get stuck.

Only fix then is to trash the prefs.

Oh and 6 months ago (when I rage quit cause of this crap) I was able to run 2 clients at 1600x1080 in window with low settings. Even running one client wasn't stable, but I was able to run 2 or even 3 when I needed to check on an alt. Last time I quit was because I was in a PvE fight and the **** crashed, causing me to loose an expensive toy.

Now it seems that at 1400x900 the game is almost impossible. The space part is smooth, but when you need to press things on the UI it quickly becomes a nightmare. At my native 1920x1200 it's not possible to even chat in station. Running 2 clients is out of the question. The Captain Quarters anime bullshit is just terrible and I'm glad I didn't see the days when you weren't able to turn that **** off.

Only good thing is that I haven't had some random crash in space. Which is very good. If you could just get this UI thing fixed I will continue my subs.

Problem confirm, I have it too. Small glitch but very annoying. It shouldn't even exist. I think this needs to be fixed.

The chat problems are much worse for me. I have several chats as tabs in one window and when I try to type in one it will freeze up, clear and redraw the chat window, lose focus, change the position in the chat and even frequently change chat tabs every several characters. Typing a whole sentence is a nightmare. The Cruicible client is much laggier in general than it was before, and changing the graphics options doesn't seem to make a lot of difference. Chat is the worst part though and it seems to get worse the longer the client has been running. I'm not sure if it's a memory leak or something caused by the client trying to refresh the entire chat history over and over, which would get worse the more that was in it. I think there were similar issues with the last expansion and it took a while to clear them up.

Similar problem here. Seems to be worse when switching in and out of channels with lot of other people present. No difference with changing member list settings or even turning it off. Also seems to get worse the longer a session has been active. No improvement with clearing cache.

I agree that despite being a great patch, Crucible has made things generally more laggy.

i can as well can confirm this issue,, stuerr/mild 1-2 sec freeze on switching chat channels, or typing chat messages in a fairly active chat channel.

I reccomend everyone expieriencing issues please post in this forum. devs/moderators are usually do not pay attention to threads unless they create them. so i encourage all of you to reply in this thread so that we can get it fixed promptly

O.k. I'm having this exact same problem... but with the PEOPLE and PLACES window.

My chats all work fine. But I get the 1-3 sec freeze every time I open the P&P window, and every time I add or delete a bookmark from that window. The really strange thing is if I remove a bookmark from the drop down menu with P&P closed everything is fine.

It is comforting to know that others have the same issues, Perhaps we can Get CCP Spitfire to notice :) i encourage anyone reading that is expieriencing the same issue as us to reply.

May i ask what everyone version of osx is, their cpu, gpu etc? perhaps we can get the ball rolling for the devs to figure this out.

10.6.8 snow leopard
2.4 GHZ intel i5
Nvidia 330m
8gb ram

latest apple updates.

i encourage all of you who have replied Lizzie Lefthand Marstolt orignal post to also post your specs, dev notice issues more if we can give them as much information as possible

As an update, i have noticed the issue goes away when i fully close the client. It could be a client session issue creating unnecessary lag, perhaps a TTL on a packet?

Confirming the problem gets worse longer the client has been online. Also large amount of people on a channel makes the lag horribad.

Stats:

3.06 GHz core 2 duo
4 gb ddr3
nvidia geforce 9400

Thank you for your reply Phantom! it is comforting to know this issue is being looked at. For me personally this is not a game breaking problem, although it can be annoying to restart the client every 20-30 mins or so. I have also have noticed that the more chat channel i am in, or the more populated they are, or if they have lots of activity, the issue gets worse.

This behavior, leads me to believe it is a ACK/SYN/TTL network/packet issue. It appears it is mostly related to the client session, and not specifically the game client. CCP has some crafty developers, so i know you guys will hunt the few lines down that are causing it :)

I read in the patch notes of changes to the user session, so perhaps that might be a good place to start.

Cheers and thank you for acknowledging Lizzie Lefthand Marstolt thread, and brining it to attention of those crazy icelandic programmers!

The chat lag is very likely to be fixed in the latest code, we're working on getting the Mac client for Sisi operational at which point you should be able to check this out there. If it still happens please don't hesitate to file a bug report and post here to tell me that I was wrong.

In general a bug report will always be a better bet than a forum thread, but combining the two is even more effective. So posting a thread asking other people if they have the same issue and then including a link to that thread in the bug report is likely to help. Thanks for taking the time to point out potential issues to us.

A bug report from the game? Can you show me how to file one?

Same problem here, my chat bug gets so bad that I end up having chat windows "stuck" to my pointer, which drags them all over the screen........I have found that relogging every hour or so helps this issue.

Any progress on this, I relog my clients every hour or so now to combat this issue.
