Also note that if you beeline to one of the Logistics that means you can't do much besides being in a group. I would suggest also picking something else that you find interesting to do, otherwise you'll get bored fairly fast.

I'm also thinking of going into CovOps / scouting. Although the training times for that seem quite long too.... Lol

The idea that you need to be in a t2 logi ship to be of use is one of the biggest myths out there. Depending on gang composition, I'm sure a t1 Logi pilot is welcomed. It's a horrible mindset to have to believe that you must fly t2 in order to be useful.

That's true, although most lower-level activities can be completed by merely having a ship with a tank taking the fire. I'll talk over with my corp about the possibility of flying a T1 Logi for now. Thanks for giving me this idea - i've seen a few T1 fits around but i've been influenced into thinking that such ships are a waste of space. I'll give it a try.

How often did you bring one to a fleet yet? There is a reason why nobody is losing Ospreys in EVE. The only reason you want to fly one is to shield rep a POS in highsec.

Don't get led into the trap of thinking that you need all skills to V to be in PvP

If you can get half-way good (and that I mean you, the player, not "you" the character) at covops/scouting you'll be widely in demand. Adding Logistics to the mix will only increase that demand.

For scouting, I'd definitely point you to the covops tree; covops 4 and the probing skills to 4 will certainly be enough for combat probing, although later if you specialise in the profession, you'll want to 5 those skills. It's actually one of the cheaper roles, skillpointwise, in PvP, but one of the more demanding when it comes to player skill and knowledge.

For Logistics, I would certainly contradict the earlier advice that "you'll want pretty much every skill to 5". Whilst training the Logistics skill itself to 5 is strongly rewarded because of the way the bonuses work, it's not absolutely mandatory and almost everything else can be at 4 and still leave you an effective logi pilot. Logistics are probably the T2 cruiser which require the lowest SP investment: You don't need any guns or missiles, your drones are kind of an afterthought. If you're going to be flying Amarr or Caldari ships, you don't even need to max out your capacitor skills (although those should be an early priority for any player)

You will not find much, where a Logi is useful beside:

Fleet encounters: Most Fleet commanders have Logistics on top of their "primary" list, so be aware that you WILL be killed, especially if you are the only Logi on the field.

Incursions: You will be highly welcome, especially if you are in a T2. You will make up to 90m/hour (at least before incoming Incursion nerf, but who knows).

POS rescue: Saving your corps higsec-POS from beeing bashed by the baddies. Your CEO will love and hug you. Unfortunatly he won´t give you iskies for.

Tl;Dr; Incursions only way to make money for Logistic pilots. But keep in mind that EVERYBODY loves the guy who prevents his shiny ship from popping.

Prepare to lose alot of ospreys to sniper tempests if you're going to try and save a highsec POS by repping it.

Malcanis' points about Logi are very good, so I'll briefly add some general points to supplement the information present in this thread:

Logi is sought after by organized player groups as a role that's support in fleets, but which isn't necessarily always supported by player behavior, or how EVE records data, and as such isn't necessarily always well supported.

Skilling towards a logistics ship, properly flown, will require a lot of the core skills necessary to fly any ship well. Fitting, capacitor, navigation, targeting, and tanking skills should be good, though as noted, they don't have to be perfect. The logistics skill itself requires 'perfect' targeting, and the role and hulls encourage very good skills (both SP skills and player skills) when it comes to targeting. Other skills just help you die less and fly longer, an important part of your role, and while having them perfect is a help, it's more beneficial that you fly the role at all.

From an organizational standpoint, though, support for logistics is something you should look into. Aside from incursions, skilling directly to logistics ships will not really improve your ability to support yourself. If you're joining a group with active incursion runners and want to run incursions to support yourself, you're likely set. Otherwise, you want a group that incentivizes logistics pilots to fly their ships with reimbursements for fleet losses, supplements to help you buy hulls and fittings, or at very least is willing to chip in to help you.

You also want to watch out for groups that strictly judge activity by killmail presence if you're flying mostly logistics in a primarily PvP role. Spending effort, concentration, fitting slots, and such to get on killmails while flying a logistics role really doesn't make sense, and it leads to poor fits, bad overviews, misclicks, and dumb decision making. If you're in a situation where you have to do this, carry some drones and let them assist your tackle. If this isn't enough, or isn't viable, your organization isn't judging the participation of its logi pilots well.

(TL;DR - Logistics or gtfo?)

So you asked for logi pilots to tell you stuff, but instead you get me, the 0.0, large scale fleet, combat pilot. I'm going to respond anyway and tell you what I think...

OMFG YES TRAIN LOGI! I'm going to offer you a single picture that both sums up why I think Eve needs more logi pilots, and why I love them so much [single picture]

That was me (shortly after), burning 80km back to a gate, being primaried by the entire fleet, everything overloaded. There was only one or two logi in our fleet (can't remember exactly). Suffice to say it wasn't enough to keep me all the way repped, but it was just enough to keep my ship alive another day. Logi make all the difference.

As a combat pilot I love the guns blazing, but I don't encourage people to go into my profession, I selflessly give them the encouragement to be a logi pilot :) It's not for everyone, but there are some people that love logi MUCH more than combat. One of my friends compared it (accurately I think) to playing a high speed game of whack-a-mole

The training plan might seem like a lot, and it is, but there's a lot of skills along that route that'll help with everything, and if you like it and continue playing because you enjoy that role, then 2 years down the road it'll seem like the blink of an eye.
