Eve-scout rescue cache containers

Good day,

I have noticed the invasion in WH-space of secured containers named 'Eve-scout rescue cache Emergency survival kit'

As far as I understand, those containers, which cannot be scanned with probes, are supposed to help pilots who are trapped in a WH without probes in order to help them finding a way out.

While the intention seems to be benevolent at first, I have concerns and would appreciate the community's input on this.

If you are trapped in a WH, there are 2 cases

1. You have no probe launcher fit in your ship, then this 'recue program' will be useless since without a mobile depot, you can't fit any probe launcher, assuming than there would one in the container.

2. If you have a probe launcher fit, then how the hell can you be out of probes or lose them ? And if that ever occures because of a computer crash or whatever, I guess every players have at least 2 sets of probes in their cargos (Core and Combat) so you cannot decently be out of probes.

Therefore, I have concerns about why people would deploy such an energy to deploy secured containers out of grid in each of every 2604 WH just to help an absent minded player times and others.

Please enlight me with your knowledge and opinion!

Kind regards

Have you tried looking up the program on the eve-scout website?

Yes and it does not answer any of my concerns.

Quoting from the eve-scout website:

"Who won't be helped by a rescue cache?"

"Because a rescue cache is a small secure container that contains a minimum of one (1) core probe launcher and eight (8) core scanner probes, it will not be any help to you if you do not already have a probe launcher fitted to your ship, if you do not have a way to change your fit in your current wormhole, or if you no longer have a ship at all!"

There you have your answer. For the most part these containers are placed to save the sort of people that /do not/ carry "backup" probes but at least have a probe launcher.

I can't realistically believe that these people exist...
This program has always been nothing more than useless dscan clutter.

There is no Bob.

I support their intentions, but the placement of their containers doesn't really seem to help all that much.

Would be interesting to see how many people actually got rescued by one ^^

Placement seems fine to me - Fly to the sun align to the planet behind the container & jump back & forth bookmarking as you go until its on grid - takes about 5 or 6 jumps

Although the ones I have blown up didn't have probes in them

Note to self : Buy plenty of small containers - I've finally found a use for "1 X carbon "

How would you know wich planet is behind the container ? (me = dumb)

Edit : Ah, found it, with scan angle at 5°

Btw popped it.

Sorry for the loss, Mr. WhoEver

Next time place Quafe Ultra in it.

That's all we need.

And as a further comment, I may add that some of the now strong members of our corp have been recruited after chating with them while trapped in our wormholes (yes, doors do collapse sometimes, Roll-guys know what I mean)

This is all part of the game, and I don't see why people would like to change it.

Seriously.

It happened to me like many other people to be trapped in a WH because bad side of the door effect or whatever other romantic effect.

So What do you do then ?

You do just what I did : connect on regular bases and say in local :
- Hello ?
- Anyone here ?
- I love you all guys !
- Peace and Love, I'm not hostile !
- And btw I could have some help if you would consider my presence here as the result of a terrible mistake

It works. At least it worked for me.

Much faster than scanning for a container and resquesting the password for opening it.

Especially since you obviously do NOT have probe launcher fit or you WOULD have probes.

I want to read witnesses of people who got trapped in a WH with a launcher fit and who lost their probes.
I still don't even know how to lose probes.
Wait until their time is up ? Don't they then dock in your ship back ?
Jettison them in space and shoot at the container ?

Seriously.

I see you haven't had any experiences with CCP's ENTERPRISE QUALITY CODING of the last few years.
about 40% of the time when you get disconnected while in space (generally an eve socket closure or other server-side crap) or don't pull your probes before you leave system/dock (less likely, but still happens), you lose your probes. They are still there on D-scan, but they aren't listed in your probe window and the "reconnect to lost probes" functionality doesn't work.

You then get to watch the probes on D-scan for another 55 mins or so until they expire. I haven't had this happen to me in quite a while, but I have the utmost faith in CCP's lack of competence to properly correct the issue.

This generally only becomes an issue when you disconnect, can't get back on, and decide to retire for the night. You come back with no probes and the wormhole home is dead and the other BMs for that hole were deleted when the hole died due to the stupidly arbitrary limit on corp bookmark numbers.

Anyhow, always carry a spare set of probes, even spacepoors can afford to do that much. 60,000 isk and .08 m^3 of space is a much cheaper insurance policy that hoping for a 3rd party to rescue you due to issues literally beyond your control. Especially if you are in a ship valuable enough to beg in channels to be saved vice ejecting and pulling (or vice versa), followed by a self destruct to k-space.

Damn they placed a replacement can in my space.

Gonna have to scan and pop it again.

Edit : Took me one hour to find it an pop it. Way too much.

I need to improve with D-scan and making BM in the middle of 2 points.

Do you guys press CTRL + B + ENTER in the middle of a warp to do so ?

After blowing up two of these, I encountered a Signal Cartel fellow showing up to drop a new one and chatted with him. Apparently they have a "No Thanks" list and you can request that they not drop cans in your system.

It's not in your wormhole corp's best interest to have hostiles creating bookmarked routes in/out of your hole, so I will continue to blow these up when I find them. And if they're stuck in my hole, it's probably because we trapped them there and would like to control that situation. (These cans are always just off grid between two celestials -- use d-scan to find it, and warp back and forth until you see it. Use a slow-aligning ship like a hauler or battleship...your interceptor will zip past it too fast to bookmark)

Like many of those here, I think the program is kind of useless since you can't put a Mobile Depot in the can, it's nearly impossible to lose your probes, and a spare set is cheap. So your best bet if you get stuck on the wrong side of a crashed wormhole or a CCP bug is to ask a friendly local to let you dock so you can refit. Or pod yourself. Or invite the locals for some pvp practice. Or always carry a mobile depot, probe launcher and probes with every fit.

And if it's a week-old alpha clone, at least be nice!

Fully agreed.

And yes I had some issues with making BMs with my Helios, next time I'll try your tip.

Or will be on anti-cargo-spam list
