EVE New Citizens Q&A

Hi space-dwellers :)
I'm definitely noob. Got less than half of the things I'm seeing around the UI, but I'm happy since it seems there's a lot to discover.
I've read a long guide linked on steam and it was helpful, along with some vids...

but assume I don't want to spoil myself too much and burn the stages... What would be a nice compendiumo of "what to do / how to do" for a beginner player?

The only thing I know is that I'm a proud Gallente and I'd like to focus on combat. I'm a free account (now...) and instead of loooong tutorials I'd really like the 5-6 things you would have wanted to hear when you started, so even if I don't get everything (kinda impossible and pointless), I won't waste many time.

Don't care about learning time and curve. I just wanna have some tips on UI management, quest handling, skills... general advice :)

I think the most important advice I could pass on to a new player is that in this game your knowledge of the game is far more important than anything else. Avoid the trap of treating this game as if it were a balanced, linear, progression game like most other MMOs. Cheaply fit T1 frigates are still very useful years down the road. You don't grow out of them. Bigger is not as a rule better and everything in this game has it's place.

Don't freak out about the losses. Each loss is a chance to learn and you should focus on learning the most from each loss not minimizing the losses. Indeed it is impossible to become experienced without loosing ships.

Try lots of stuff even things that you don't think you will like. Do more of what you enjoy and less of what you don't.

Don't be afraid to play around with things. There is no perfect fit for any ship. Everything in this game is situational and every fit requires you to understand the piloting theory behind it for it to be used effectively.

Don't look for fair fights in this game. There is no mechanic to create: fixed, queueable, or balanced PvP in this game. I once saw someone post a comment that went something like "if you find yourself in a fair fight in Eve then something went terribly wrong on both sides". I found that to be very informative when it comes to Eve combat.

You are not looking for a fair fight in this game. You are not looking for a brawl. This game is more predator versus prey than player versus player. The trick is that both sides are trying to pretend that they are the prey while actually being the predator.

Make firends early on. Many players come to Eve thinking that they need to build themselves and their character's up before they can be "useful" to a corp and Eve does not work that way. This is a game and if you are looking to have fun there are other, more experienced players that are more than happy to take the time to teach you. So talk to people and get involved with other players.

First, there are no quests. Second, missions are usually boring and don't get you a lot of money. Third, I am a proud Gallente warrior, so I ask you to join our militia! Fourth, if in need for money, use Imicus to go wormhole some items! (Find some vids to get started) Fifth, don't try doing PvP right away! It ain't that easy. It requires research and time. Goodbye!
