So I was planning on coming back to eve after 7 years. I was not the best account, but I had more than a few Sp. I could fly a modest ammar carrier. Needless to say after such a long time I had a hard time remembering my main login. I opened a ticket with CCP to gain access to my account. The hidden email that was listed on the account is nothing I recalled. Maybe the account was hacked.

After waiting for weeks I get a reply back from CCP that basically said without proof that I was sharing my account and thus they could not help me. They then closed my ticket and said that they would not reply. I never shared this account.

Really CCP? this is how you plan on fixing your falling membership?

What I did when I knew I would stop playing for some years was that I wrote down username/password and its linked e-mail account in a note pad and stored it on my usual backup USB.

When I came back 3 years or so later, all was fine.

Perhaps small preparation on your part would have prevented it.

My departure was not planned... I had a family event. I was last logged out at a null space POS in a carrier. Plus, if someone hacked my account... It would not have helped.

Even if your departure wasn't planned, you could have still written down login info somewhere after some weeks or so.

Alas, I guess it's useless to talk about it.

There was one occasion, before 2010, that I had to contact CCP to recover an account. It took about 2 days and all I had was username and last 4 digits of CC but I was able to recover the account.

Writing down passwords is bad juju. Don't listen to him.

oh, and I wager you do not know your CC# from 7 years ago.

CCP keeps a log of IP addresses used to log in. If it's from entirely different places, they ask you to verify via e-mail.

If your account was really hacked, it would also mean your e-mail account was hacked at which point you have more pressing issues than a game account, I believe.

I can understand CCP's response. Based on what you've said in the OP, literally anyone and everyone could make the same claim. Oh, help me, CCP, I'm a returning player, I used to fly a TITAN, but I can't remember my e-mail, my CC, my password or any of the char names! Help me, CCP, you're my only hope!

also, 7 years is NOT a long time. if you can't remember the CC#, try getting your Credit Report and some info on your past Credit Cards should be included in it.

And, ever since I couldn't get my WOW account back, after they switched to BattleNet, I write everything down. Account Name, E-mail, password, the day and time I created the account, and so forth.

You should look at this from the perspective of CCP, or some random player.

You're some person who can't remember your login and you've asked for access to the account but have no proof that it's yours.

I could literally do this with usernames plucked off of one of the numerous security breaches happening all the time to various services, or even just pluck names off this forum and hope someone made their username their account login.

They have no proof you are who you say you are, what exactly are they supposed to do, hand you the account and wish you on your way?

With CCP's help, I restored more than 15 old accts from as much as eight years ago. Some I had no password for. Some I had no email for. Some I had neither.

It wasn't quick. Let's remember this was the beginning of F2P. But it got done.

I don't know what your problem is (Being a **** to CCP would be a good guess, though), but they go out of their way to help most of the time when it comes to their income stream.

Yes I agree, I was in a similar situation in 2007 after a break. Once I gave them the product code on the back of the manual that came with the CD version back in 2003 I just had to answer 7 questions and I was allowed access.

So I regained access to the account. They eventually saw that they were being lame. Looking at the logs looks like some guy from the Netherlands paid for my account for 1 month about 2 years after I left, and only logged in once. He changed the names on everything but did not take anything. All my ISK is there.

So now I am docked deep in null space with no standing. Lucky me. I have an app in with the new owners of the area to join up so I do not have to move.

No, I was not. the original story they went with was that I shared the account and that there was a "change of ownership." I do not know how this guy in Netherlands gained access to my account, but I guess he did not like what he saw when he got in. only logged in once. The first guy just closed the ticket without even really talking to me. Only in my second ticket did they really look at the account I think.

I have not used that email address for many years. I do not even have access to it anymore... It was Hotmail, and one year I went out of the country for a few months without internet access. I came back to find that Hotmail had deleted all my emails after 30 days of inactivity. Evil I stopped using it at that point.

Rather than just chastising you for not writing down your username and password I can tell you a little story that MIGHT help you.

So I recently recovered 6 accounts after a 4 year break. I did write down all of my usernames and passwords, however back when I quit there was no E-Mail address required to be linked to an account. I didn't remember 4 of the 6 E-Mail addresses much less the passwords. Coffee was spilled on the notepad one year and wiped some of the passwords.

CCP will ask you to answer about 6 different questions. Go LINE BY LINE and address every single one of the questions, even if you do not have an answer. I told them the truth, that I used throw away E=Mail accounts (like LIVE.com) and could not remember much about them, plus Microsoft deactivated a few.

Naturally after 4 years any of my credit cards had expired, which didn't matter as I used to buy my PLEX from an authorized code retailer that gave a free one for every 12 or something.

Two of the most important questions they ask are;

A) Where were you logging in from
B) What was your ISP?

Now the questions are not worded like that but when it comes down to the real world Internets, YOU know where you were and what ISP (Internet Service Provider) you were using and only YOU know that (and CCP). So you do not have to have answers to every question, just address each one.

CCP was finally fair about it, but they lost a lot of money because if they had been more helpful with account recovery I would have came back with 6 paid accounts a year prior. It was a sick feeling to think I lost 1.5 Billion skill points and all of my ships and ****. But when I answered all of the questions line by line, even when I didn't have an answer I presumed they needed That's when they validated my new REAL E-Mail address for all of the accounts.

I honestly believe that providing your ISP you used and what city/state/providence/stan/region/prefecture you were in are the two most valuable ways to prove it's you, as CCP can cross reference that with their server logs.

Now I am back, and probably gonna pop some pods soon. Let me know in game if you would like to join in on some blood thirst. I need some violence now to relax.

I had my login information... but as someone took over my account, it did not work.

The second dev was more helpful than the first that closed the ticket without any thought. I'm in the account now.

I had the original email, billing address, the email I was contacting them from had a previous ticket where my account had been locked down due to an attempted hack. Looking at the records it was clear. after 2 years of inactivity, someone activated the account, paid for 1 month, logged in once from the Netherlands, and never logged in again. I am not even sure if he even logged into the game... I think the person just logged in to change the personal information. after that, there was zero activity for nearly 5 years.

Yeah. Us girls gotta look out for those guys in The Netherlands. They will hack your ass in a heartbeat.

Glad you got your account back. Perhaps my story will help others searching for such.

I'm actually a guy. account inspired by my wife in the hope that I could get her to play. Pichilemu is the Russian word for why. I person (feminine form) (normally a child) that is always asking why is a Pachiemuchka.

Robin Williams said it best:

‘why is the sky, blue?’
Well because of the atmosphere.
‘Why is there atmosphere?’
Well because we need to breathe.
‘Why do we breathe?’
Why the f*** you wanna know! A year ago you were sitting in your own ****, now you’re Carl Sagan! What is this? Who are you? Are you Buddha? Ask mommy she’s omnipotent she knows everything.
