You guys know the level 1 security mission where they have you go on a wild goose chase for these UFO ships? And then you gotta fight the Pirates in the end? They always warp away when you get close. My question is, has anyone ever tried tackling one of these things and warp disrupting it to try to get a closer look? I got a faint scoped disruptor on my destroyer and target locked and got almost barely close enough (22km) to disrupt it, but it got away just before I got there. With a warp disrupt tech 2 you get a longer range, has anyone else tried and done this successfully?

I can't imagine this working, but if you want to try it out, grab a fleet interceptor. They are fast and they have a point range bonus. Or take a Keres for less speed and more range. Or a Garmur if you want to go bling.

Don't forget to overheat your point, you get some extra range when you do that
