launcher not launching :P

Ubuntu 17.04
Gnome 3

Installed according to this guide > https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Installing_EVE_on_Linux

second part of creating the shortcut is not working at all as clicking the shortcut yields no response, guess I'll have to play with permissions and such and set it as executable. but we'll leave it for later.

right now the launcher itself is working, my account details are save, game was downloaded.

But,
when I click the play button the V mark is gone for few seconds per usual, but game itself is not starting and focus returns to the launcher with V mark again like I just closed the game client.

any pointers?

It could be a lot of things. In order for us to help we need to know what specifically went wrong. You can find those errors in

~/.local/share/CCP/EVE/Launcher/launcher*.txt

I have posted Debain instructions at the link below, but before you try anything else I'd suggest the winetricks bit as people seen to get stuck on that corefonts bit and it sounded like you were in wine already:

winetricks corefonts d3dx9_36 vcrun2005 vcrun2008 vcrun2010 vcrun2013

Run that then run ./evelauncher.sh by hand. Nobody seems to have luck with the desktop icon. I'm guessing its a gnome 2 link as you have 3 and I have xfce. This is linux and real men use CLI :)

tyvm but it seems that ubuntu install was borked I had to remove it entirely.

I'll try again in the future and update.

Got if working.

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

Normal Launcher.

You MUST use the Wine version that Ubuntu installs from synaptic. Version 1.16. That does it :)
