Occasionally I've been frustrated with screen tearing. I found a solution that was painless and worked on both Nvidia machines I have (750TI and 1060).

Linux Mint here, but may apply painlessly in other places with similar system options.

Menu - Control Center - Desktop Settings - Windows

Select Window Manager "Marco + Compton"

Screen flashes a few times and then poof....no more tearing. ymmv
