Returning player, feels like there is a lack of information anywhere?

I'm returning after having last played during Retribution (2014). There seems to be a total lack of information outlets on the current state of the game.

Can anyone recommend/link any places to look?

The meta is obviously going to be waaaaaayyy different to what I can recall, and the game itself has undergone some huge changes (2014- frigates op, hurricane nerfed etc)

Battleclinic is gone now? Is there an out of game resource for fit feedback other than eft/pyfa/etc which are for building?

Every response seems to be just buy stuff and go figure it out, which seems counter-intuitive to EVE's style of planning given there are so many ships and modules. I don't want to commit to the Omega only to find out that I need to spend 2 weeks researching before being able to play how I want. EVE seems to be a completely closed environment now, relevant info doesn't exist outside of the game :(

For clarity, I have 47million skill points in caldari/minmatar/ecm/missiles/gunnery, pretty much anything below a battleship and probably half a dozen battleships.

For training help look to evemon

for fitting, I still use evehq although unless he is able to pass it on to someone else it will stop being developed, there are also online resources like fleetup and osmium, both of which people can give feedback, however what the quality of that feedback is like I don't know.

Maps of the universe i find dotlan good, although since the removal of the IGB not as good as it was.

There are plenty of corps out there that will take an Alpha pilot and provide help and information, I know Brave do, i would have thought that Karma Fleet and Pandemic Horde do too.

Hope this helps.

That's because the game changed and everyone read the dev blogs / was too busy with market speculation / wars, so nobody had time to write up summaries of what's changed.

Your best bets are to ask questions here, or on Reddit; both communities should be friendly enough to provide specific answers.

Keep in mind that CCP is switching to new forums in about 10 days, so they may have an incentive to post newer / more up to date tutorials on said new forums, to kick-start them.

Otherwise, they got rid of the official Evelopedia site, and in response EVE University tried to pick up the slack and update its wiki to current information, with emphasis on "tried".

For fittings, Battleclinic is gone; they were a decent source of examples of fittings, and they haven't been replaced. CCP introduced an in-game EFT / pyfa (look at the little buttons around the fitting screen), where you can play with configurations without having to buy items or ships from the market, but it doesn't really provide examples or guides.

AFAIK, people have switched to analyzing killboard fittings, but of course that only gives you the LOSING fits, not the winning ones.

As a minor plus side, CCP's done a revamp of ships and modules to make it more intuitive to figure out how to fit ships. Simplified names, nerf of overpowered modules, etc. The current meta is using mobile cruiser / BC platforms, and the T3 ships that have built-in gimmicks, for fights. Also, several pirate faction ships have built-in gimmicks that make them extremely popular.

EDIT: Committing to Omega... don't "commit". You can certainly pay for a month and pre-cancel so it doesn't renew. It's really a decision based on whether you want the normal skillpoint training rate, or the half rate that Alphas get. Whether you want to fly the advanced ships or the base ones that Alphas are locked to. Because spending 2 weeks reading up on what's changed, you'll have to do that regardless of whether you're Alpha or Omega.

Was waiting for this response because there is information on EvE literally EVERYWHERE if someone is willing to do the most basic of searches. If man discovered a new planet in our solar system never visited nor viewed by any human being, it would most likely already have several "how to make ISK as an Alpha" guides littering it's otherwise barren surface.

If you google search "EvE Online Latest News / Changes" the first page returns at least 10 recent articles about changes and updates to EvE, including Reddit, Official EvE Patch Notes, EvE Updates Log, Development Blogs, a minimum of two EvE specific third party news outlets and a sketchy looking partridge in an expansive and free to play pear tree.

Youtube is also bursting with EvE guides new and old.

How are you finding a lack of info, do you have the internet?

3rd party developers are struggling to keep up with the pace of change in the game but the in-game tools have improved.

You can simulate fits for any ship in the game and test drive your fits on Singularity. If you join a player corporation, they will usually have a selection of corp/alliance doctrine fits that you should use.

Evemon remains an excellent tool for skill management but it hasn't received any updates this year and doesn't know about Citadels or Alpha clones.

EFT appears to be abandoned but the PYFA crew are doing a pretty good job of keeping up.

You should take into consideration check what the player did before he lost his ship. The winning fit should have a few wins ahead of the loss.

.

I love Osmium it dose most of what BattleClinic did, and stays pretty up to date.
