Why do certain ships, regardless of bonus role, have only one kind of Weapon slot? We should be able to change if we want "Missile launcher", or "Turret" base weapons in each Offensive slot.

Note: If a ship has bonus for Missiles and a person change 1 or more slots to Turrets then that does not carry over to the Turret and give it any bonuses of course.

Not much point, why would you want to use an unbonused turret/launcher?

I understand what you are saying. It is a good question.

I think the answer is simply that's the way certain ships are designed.

Some ships, like the Typhoon, has 6 launchers slots, and 6 turrets slots. The bonus is only for the launchers.

The Rokh has 8 turrets slots and 4 launcher slots. Bonus is for the turrets.

Damnation is designed to used launchers and gets a bonus. It's sister ship, the Absolution, is designed for turrets and get a bonus.

The Scorpion has 4 turret slots, and 4 launcher slots. No bonuses for either.

Caldari battlecruisers: Drake has launchers, Ferox has turrets.

Etc, etc.

But yeah, why can't I have a Raven with 6 launchers slots, and 6 turrets shots? With bonuses for each weapon system.

The ships were made for specific purposes.

The Strategic Cruisers are the only ones that you can change systems, and also get bonuses for them too.

Why does that bottle of Lagavulin not taste like a bottle of Bowmore, if I rather feel like Bowmore instead of Lagavulin. It should, shoudln't it?

Because the avaliability of slots for turret or launcher hardpoints is one aspect of the slot layout for a ship. Which defines what this ship is and what it can be made to do. It narrows the focus of fitting options thus allowing for some level of predictability in fittings and doctrines. It is this which makes it possible to know with some measure of confidence how a ship might be fit and what to expect from it.

If what you suggested were to be implemented than it would relegate every ship to the position of being a highly flexible platform, there would be increased uncertainty when facing opponents, and hulls would become much alike in function with little to distinguish them.

For the record, there are hulls which do offer the variety in fitting options which you are looking for. Such as the Typhoon or Sythe Fleet Issue. However, this is normally balanced by taking some utility away from the hulls to make them less favourable than a properly bonued hull used to full effect.

Because diversity, you don't really want one size fits all ships as that will get pretty bland.

A full rack of auto-cannons on an Orca would be hilarious.

It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross. But it's not for the timid.

Mining with autocannons! Make it a thing!

A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.

Id like for the high slots to be freed up for more diverse builds, but its too late for that.

For example many minnie cruisers/BCs would suddenly have a (bonused) additional turret slot increasing their dps dramatically.

(drools at thought of 5 gun cynabal...)

Where it up to me™ players would be able to rig ships for that sort of thing.

I always wished EVE ships were a little more flexible to different weapons/loadouts. I love trying to come up with off the wall load outs but in most cases you only hurt your ships potential. Unfortunately it's a - Use as designed or your doing it wrong - kind thing.

This literally used to be the case, ships used to have a fair number of slots for both types of weapons. People complained that they were useless and just invited confusion and bad fitting decisions among newer players, so CCP mostly removed them from most hulls when they went through and did the tiericide.

IMO the original complaints are pretty spot on. There's very little point to mixing guns and missiles, and fitting a ship for a weapon it isn't bonused for is incredibly stupid.

But what if OP wants to do something stupid? After all, he gets to keep posting ideas on the forums, therefore he ought to be able to fly suicide machines as well.

Probably the same reason why some Caldari ships bonuses only apply to kinetic missiles rather than every damage type.

I don't know what the reason is, but it's probably the same.

I still love me some turrets on my dominix even with no turret bonuses.
