I'm sure this is posted somewhere but I can't find it.

I have a situation below:

Pilot A is giving bursts to Pilot B.
Pilot B can be shot at by Pilot C.
Can Pilot C actively shoot Pilot A?

Thanks in advance.

I think it depends if both pilots are in fleet.

It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross. But it's not for the timid.

Pilot A and Pilot B are in fleet with each other.

As far as I'm aware Boosting someone does no transfer aggression, Remote repairing does.

IE . Remote repairing a booster transfers the weapons timer.

This would appear to be correct:

Command bursts do not interact with Crimewatch and thus no flags are transferred. You can boost a fleetmate with no risk of becoming vulnerable to legal aggression.

If Pilot A will not receive aggression towards Pilot C, then what happens if Pilot B is at war with Pilot C? From the post it looks like that nothing will happen (which is what I'm looking for).

Nothing will happen. Providing boosts to another player who is in a war will not earn you any flags or make you a legal target in any way. You can use command boosts to support a target in a war with no repercussions other than I guess the risk someone will suicide gank you while you are on-grid with the legal participants fighting in a war.

As was said this is not true if you provide remote armor or shield repairs. That will earn you a 'suspect' flag and you will be a legal target for everyone.

Correct on that post, boosting does not give aggression timers. Would be kind of silly imo if it did. 🙂

To be honest, I lived in the day where almost anything would cause you to get shot at... I'm just being cautious and wanted to make sure that if I gave out boosts to someone that is at war that I wouldn't get shot at.

Actually, it does give you an "aggression timer" as in the one you get from committing an aggressive act that doesn't let you dock or take a gate for 60 seconds. Even for mining boosts.

You don't however inherit the flags of the ships you are boosting, or are flagged for interfering in a war, like you would for repping them. You probably should though, and CCP was just not able to implement that for practical concerns. It could have been treated just like neutral repping, but I guess it was not feasible to implement as you should not be able to interfere with a war or support a criminal action safe behind the protection of CONCORD.

Giving out mining bursts technically does help that target out when it comes to generating ISK. However, it doesn't directly affect their ship's combat capabilities. I think that this is the reason why CCP didn't change it.

I don't think so as giving combat boosts doesn't as well. You would think you should not be able to boost war target's shield without getting involved in a war or improve the combat capabilities of someone stealing stuff without becoming a suspect yourself but you can. I am sure the exclusion was done for technical reasons as Fozzie pretty much says in the post I linked.

Whether mining boosts should do the same would be an open question - I could see arguments either way that mining boosts should be excluded from Crimewatch because they provide no combat benefit, or that they should because you are aiding an opponent in a war economically. But since all boosts are currently excluded from Crimewatch the question didn't arise. All boosting can be done with no danger of inheriting a flag from another player.

One of the main ideas behind the current boosting system was to reduce server load.

A one-way boost relationship is far more gentle on the servers.

Imagine a large fleet fight in nulsec, and having to manage flags from boosting that are totally meaningless.

Well, the cluster nodes that run nullsec systems have the CrimeWatch stuff turned off completely so that wouldn't be an issue, but I get your general point and this is in fact what Fozzie said - performance concerns are why boosts do not earn or propagate CrimeWatch flags.

I think though that the previous incarnation of the boosting system had a lower demand on the servers though given it was a flat boost to anyone in fleet and in system. I don't think they designed the new system to reduce server load below what we had before, although I imagine performance was of front of mind while they were designing it like with everything else.
