The PDS is AoE weapon like smart bomb in damage and range but capable to target only aggressors.

So you want a smartbomb.

And all the benefits it provides.

Minus the potential repercussions.

Yeah. No.

How is possible in a futuristic game not to have Point defense system and to have energy pulse weapon that is called smartbomb when is common knowledge that the term smart for weapons indicates precision.

Because game balance trumps 'realism'. Or more specifically it trumps the various individual ideas of realism that individual players feel should be injected into their spaceship-submarines simulator.

It's also common knowledge for anyone in or even around the military that "Smart weapons aren't".



Here's the thing though, smartbombs *aren't* that low DPS. One of the best ways to run quite a few different forms of Null PvE is to use a fully smartbomb fitted ship, because while it doesn't deal as much damage per target as guns or missiles it hits *everything* in range, making it extremely effective overall.

The same thing happens in PvP.

Go look up "Eve Pipebomb" for the relevant tactic and how hilariously effective this can be. One of the main downsides being that you need specific setups, careful positioning, and everyone needs to be running the same bomb type or you blow each other up.

Oh and lets not forget the extreme prevalence of Smartbombs on Capitals in fleet fights to clear drones, fighters, ect. I'm sure every Super and Titan pilot in Eve would *love* to be able to just auto-cycle those things without worrying about killing their own drones or hurting their own subcaps.

Overall I think you have drastically underestimated both the power and existing utility of smartbombs in both PvP and PvE, and therefore don't understand how horribly and utterly broken this would be in reality.
