There was never any possibility of a human being murdered; if I be right, a demon would have been destroyed; if you be right, your mistress and her husband would have gotten a little wet.

If it were just me, Mr. Nauplius, I'd happily pour the whole jug over my head to demonstrate that I don't go up in a puff of sulfurous smoke.

It isn't just me. The Praefecta believes in the Amarrian God, and there's only so far she'll go to appease the concerns of a person she not very surprisingly sees as a heretic. The cost of setting your mind at ease is letting you attempt to banish her baby boy using, to her eye, heretical rites that almost certainly don't work, but allowing the attempt would be just basically unconscionable: appeasement of a heretic, and a wink at heresy, at her family's expense.

There's no way I could do something so profoundly offensive to her.

I am really wondering what game you are playing here Nauplius?
