These gender identity things are getting too weird for me to follow. I think I'm getting out of touch. Starting that young too? Wonder what a potential spawn of mine would identify as? Transcruiser Vargurkin or something, maybe.

The reasons why being barren might actually be a good thing just keeps piling up.

Correct me if I am wrong. But last time I checked Loyalist Corps only employ Theology Council Sanctioned Priests.

This is the Amarr Empire we are talking about. There are standards of excellence that must be followed.

Oh gods and ...

Look. Mr. Nauplius, my core duty is to one person and one person only, and I'm quite absolutely certain that she wouldn't have taken kindly to being doused with holy water blessed by your hand and your conception of divinity. I did contemplate some method of approaching it that would maybe persuade you that there was nothing wrong with the little one, but couldn't think of a way that wouldn't be extremely offensive to the Praefecta and ultimately didn't even bring it up because I didn't want to upset her.

The fact that you inferred that I hadn't applied the stuff just from the very fact that the little one still exists and was born tells me that you, also, would see my applying that allegedly-holy water to the Praefecta as something harmful. I gather you expected the little one to go up in a miscarriage-and-puff-of-smoke.

In other words, the only person here for whom applying that water would have been at all a neutral act, is me. To the Praefecta, it would been profoundly offensive; to you, attempted forced abortion (then) or infanticide (now). As far as I can tell it's just water-- at this point, incredibly symbolically loaded water-- but my position definitely doesn't include substituting my own feelings for the Praefecta's where her own family is concerned.

If it's any comfort, the little one's going to be brought up in the Imperial Rite from basically the day he can-- scratch that, from well before he can talk or understand what's going on around him.

So thank you for your concern, but please leave my mistress and her family alone and stop saying awful things about her youngest before he's even had his naming ceremony!
