Jita IV-4 Station Docking range

Dear EVE,

Today I made my usual transfer of planetary resources to Jita in my Anathema with my Alt. After I jumped to Jita I pressed the Warp and Dock button and waited to dock the station. Unfortunately, my warp ended at approximately 1 Km from the docking range and I had to approach the station. In less then a second my ship was targeted and destroyed by AlFaraS'ulTanine.

Now, I understand for some stations to have a smaller docking range (dependent on the quality of the station) and by this, to be unable to dock instantly after arriving at the station, but Jita IV - Moon 4 - Caldari Navy Assembly Plant?

At the most populated station of the game you are allowing players who have no intention of PVP, players who bring goods that support economy of the game to be randomly exposed to killing and eventually looting trough the simple fact of randomly warping 1 Km short of the station's docking range.

Although my loss was not that big (600 mil ISK), I'm still bound to wonder where do I end up if this happens to me half the times. What should I do? Sell my goods at a lower price at another station or wait a week for them to be sold? Use a battlecruiser to haul 200 m3 of goods? Any hauler would be destroyed just as easily by a Tornado. I understand loosing because of my carelessness, lack of knowledge, because I missed something. But because the game exposes me to players who scam and take advantage of any "exploits" they can find? Speaking of exploit, wouldn't this situation lean towards being an exploit (hunting for random warp outs at the most important market hub of the game)?

On the other hand, if these are the people that you want to support in this game, then I'll make room for them. Please consider this situation.

As Yaosus already pointed out, make a bookmark on the station that is at 0km off the station so that you can safely dock from there. In a similar fashion create an undock bookmark several hundreds or even thousands of kms away from where you are undocking that you can quickly warp to before gankers have the chance to blow your hauler to shreds. Or just use one of the Perimeter trade Fortizars where you never have to worry about that kind of thing because of tethering.

This is not considered an exploit, and they aren't going to alter the docking radius for Jita just because it's the most popular hub. You only increase the odds of you getting ganked if you haul several multitudes more than your ship is worth as you did in this case.

^^ both of the above, insta-dock and insta-undock bookmarks are extremely effective at lowering the chances of dying when entering or leaving a station.

On that note, Jita 4-4 has a very convenient moon for making insta-undock bookmarks; warp to it and just make a bookmark mid warp. 9 times out of 10 it'll be within a few degrees of the Jita 4-4 undock vector and allow you to initiate warp without changing direction and with no delay; the undock velocity is greater than the magical 75% of max speed required to get you into warp.

If you have "no intention" of participating in PvP, then it is up to you to learn how to avoid it as best as possible. (See the above posts).

Just know that many consider the act of avoiding gankers as a form of PvP itself; if you want to truly avoid PvP you should never undock.

Ships being destroyed ARE THE ECONOMY you are serving. Consider this a tax on your future wealth. If less ships blew up in general, you would probably get less ISK for your commodities.

I see another fool relied on the Dock button and was unpleasantly surprised.

Lets see....

Make a bookmark.

Warp To Zero, THEN Dock.

Of course...being you were instablapped.......maybe you would have died anyway even if you HAD been in the undock range.

Because it sounds like somebody scanned you on passive and took a look at the juicy, juicy cargo you (once) had.

All else aside, no, it wasn't. A server tick - one second - must pass between you appearing on-grid and lockon, and between lockon and firing.

Sometimes if you're caught without an instadock (I know, but we've all done it) it's worth switching on a MWD. The increased sig radius doesn't matter if you can make it to the station before the shots land.

Makes me wonder why proper precautions weren't taken during the trip.

In most ships, I expect to be scanned, but there are a few where it should be possible to avoid that.

Dock in 4-4 jump in a shuttle

Undock and stop the ship as fast as you can and make a BM called undock

Fly directly down ( go make a cuppa tea) and when you hit anything over 250km below stn make another BM and call it the range and location.

Warp back to your undock BM then point away from the station as if you were slow boating out to 250km or more and make another BM and call it Insta undock.

Warp back to station

You now have a warp to 0 on dock and a warp to 250k below station and a insta

All in the time you could say omfg this is taking ages

PS finish your cuppa tea

if you warp to an instadock on a station, you can set your destination to that station and engage the autopilot to dock at the first available tick, just in case you DC/get attacked by rabid squirrels/have to take a phonecall

I've never even considered doing that, I would rather mash the dock button myself than trust autopilot with anything.

Place neutral alt in a crappy ship on undock in fleet and warp to member.... If at war with anyone

Leave alt in jita and just fleet him anytime your coming , if you hate bookmarks or if you already have too many bookmarks to choose from and you don't to spend the extra effort of clicking that extra spot in that drop down menu... Cause damn that's a ton of effort for anyone I mean it'll take like less than 5 seconds but what else can you do in 5 seconds.
