Salvaging uses modules such as the 'Salvager I' or "Salvager II" to extract salvageable materials from ship wrecks. These salvaged items (such as armor plates) are used in manufacturing for ship Rigs.

To do this, equip the highslots of your ship with a Salvager I > Target a wreck and fly within range > activate the Salvager I mod the same way you would shoot a ship > wait until your mod cycles a few times and if successful, the salvaged material will automatically appear in your ship's cargohold.

Some wrecks will not yield anything, and a message will pop up saying "This wreck didnt yield anything of value" (or something along those lines). If this is the case, simply move on to the next wreck.

How to get into Salvaging
• Run a mission site (such as a level 2 or 3 security mission). Once complete, bookmark the site (Control + B in space).
• Fit a destroyer's high slots with Salvager I's and Small Tractor Beam I's
• In your destroyer, warp to the bookmark you made. You will see wrecks.
• Target wreck > activate tractor beam > once wreck is close, activate salvager.

Once you get better at this, you will be able to multitask and have three wrecks being salvaged at the same time as tractoring another 3-4 wrecks into range.

The salvage is used to build rigs for ships and the new Upwell structures. Since the structure rigs require a lot of salvage this is becoming a viable profession.

If you want to look into salvaging as a profession contact http://pro-synergy.net/

I used to think that everything I saw in space can be salvaged/mined.. there were alot of stuff in space! Then I found out there's only a limited selection of items that can be locked on and used with specific modules to extract some items from them.

All items extracted using a Salvager are basic building blocks for some Rig. This can be a source of a semi-passive income where you get salvage materials, use them with a Rig blueprint and place them into a manufacturing line to bake overnight. Next morning you get the finished rig, $ching$ching$ching$ item to sell.

Watch out for ships with lots of high slots so you can fit multiple Salvager modules on it and bonused ships for salvaging.

If you are new and running missions in a ship that doesn't rely upon combat drones but can use drones, you might consider placing down a Mobile Tractor Unit when you enter a mission. (Basic MTUs are about 7 million ISK).

While you are killing enemies, release a flight of 5 Salvage Drone I (very cheap drones) and in the drone window, select all of your salvage drones and command them to start salvaging.

When you finish killing everything you intend to kill in the mission (which may not be everything), look inside your MTU and take all loot that appeals to you (don't bother with cheap crap, just filter to only show modules over 250000 ISK), scoop the MTU, then recall your salvage drones.

Pirate players like myself might attempt to shoot your MTU at times. If we do you are allowed to shoot at us, but if you do shoot us we will have the right to retalliate. Generally shooting us will be a trap, but it is not impossible to get the better of us if you seriously prepare.

Since I'm stuck as an alpha for the time being, and can't fly my noc. I rigged with a couple savage tackles 1s and fitted a catalyst with 5 salvagers 1s and a couple guns(if rats show up) and a tractor Beam and cargo extenders. I got the cargo hold up to 730m3, plenty room to pick up my mobile tractor units I drop in a multi room complex.

As an alpha I can't get but 6 lock ons so so any more than 5 salvagers isn't worth the trouble. I miss my Noc Sad

i am fully aware of the fact that this is the place for new players to ask questions, because eve is not easy to understand etc
but honestly did you first use google before asking simple question like that?
i mean that i type "eve salvaging" in the search window of google and the first line is
https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Salvaging

did you read it?

if i give this advice it is also because you 'ill find more complex subjects laterwhile playing eve and most of them are already explained and easily found via google. Including how to fit a travel interceptor, how to hack a superior sleeper cache etc...

MTUs make you very easy to scan down and as such setting up and MTU in a busy mission hub will almost guarantee that you get visitors. Sabriz's post was accurate and informative. I just wanted to add that I stopped using MTUs in high sec due to the extremely high increase in the frequencey of mission intruders that came with it.

That's true. I'm lucky, I don't live in a busy mission, high population, or high traffic system, and the times someone dose drop in are polite and Warp out when they see the site is occupied. So not as many intrusions in my mission bubbles. And the MTUs are very easy to scan down, I have from time to time forgotten to bookmark my MTU and had to break out my scan ship to find it with combat probes.

If I didn't want to use a MTU I would set up my salvage cat with 4 salvage and 4 tractor beams, and drag and salvage wrecks as I move through them.

I forgot I also use a fast atron for ninja salvage. Alphas can't be choosers lol

It's very fast, and can usually get most every thing on the approach from the salvager limit.

Nanofiber Internal Structure I

Below is something I have seen many times over.

Step 1: Join a newbro friendly null sec corp
Step 2: Make sure they post salvage bookmarks
Step 3: Salvage all the dank nullsec anoms for 50 to 60mil an hour.. even in a catalyst
Step 4: Omega in a week if you are not already
Step 5: Within a month buy 2 to 3 skill injectors to move into a noctis make 100+mil an hour
Step 6: Lose noctis to a roaming gang because you didn't pay attention to intel
Step 7: Buy a new one and fly it smarter and make dank isk

At this point you have enough for more accounts... the cycle continues....

Kathern .. the idea to CAT fit for salvage is good a lot but the tractor beam hasnt the same range to MTU´s ... Right ?

That's actually a really awesome idea that I'm surprised I'd never thought of

I never bother with scanning for MTUs when I look for mission runners as I'm more interested in what type of ship they are flying and whether I can take it. Battleships are just as easy to scan to be honest.

Unless you really care about the loot you can completely ignore people interfering in your mission space. They don't actually want the loot anyway; they are just taking it to provoke you. Abandon your wrecks when they show up and they'll generally just leave.

.. The MTUs are reusables ?

it means : i can deploy in space, run cicles of MTU, end to salvage área, return mtu at cargo, warp next área, and do again with the same MTU ?

MTU's are reuseable but they are also able to be shot at without concord interference. Running anoms in null sec I use the same few MTUs over and over and over. I run 3 anoms in my BS and drop 3 MTUs, one in each anom. I then switch to my noctis and go back out and pick up the MTUs and salvage the wrecks.

In high sec if you are in one of the busy mission systems and use MTUs a lot you will loose them regularly. For the cost of the MTUs and how much loot that they bring in it's probably still worth it but you should be aware that in high sec people will shoot at your MTUs. Game mechanic wise they can shoot at them in null sec as well however it brings diplomace issues along with it which are far more of a deterrent than anything concord does.
