There was a website i used to go to that would show you 2 random eve portraits, and you could simply click the one you thought was better. You didn't have to pay a fee to be entered, as everyone was entered in automatically, but i cant find this site now :c

Does anyone know the name of this? I can't seem to find it by searching :c

If you speak of that last one (that I've seen) by Nova Kierra, the New Eden Faces, I think it's been down for some time now.

I wouldn't be surprised if it going down had something to do with eveportraits.com where people can pay 20m to enter their portrait and not have to worry about competing with anyone else besides those who paid to enter.

I know this is more trivial than other examples, but this wouldn't be the first time a great tool or feature has been removed due to being too useful (market analyzing tools) or when something is better and more popular than its restrictive for-profit counterparts..

This is pretty common, I remember I used to play DrawMyThing, where players would take turns drawing a random word while the rest tried to be the first to guess it within a time limit, part of the casual game platform OMGPOP.. untill it was bought out by Zynga (competing casual game company) for between $200m and $500m USD for the sole purpose of taking it offline, leaving people looking for subpar alternatives..

This just feels like another OMGPOP.. if someone could recreate or bring this kind of thing back and throw some ads on it or even just accept donations, I think it would be a nice success!

eh..? I fail to see any connection to Eveportait´s way of compete as participants had no way to vote for anyone, they could just enter their characters into the game and to be ruled by Reality X, the sole judge of that "game". And last two rounds, 7 and 8, were free for all.

In the end, New eden faces sadly became just another troll site, voting to diminish others. Soon after that, the site started to be more and more offline etc., I think Nova just finally got tired to maintain it at all.

Sure, this could be interesting to test again, with all the new faces as many years has passed since release of Incarna.
However, the way of entering that would have to be more demanding if one would want to receive more realistic and honest results. And that, I feel, is always the downside of these kind of mini-games: it will cut back the number of entries. The tolerance for effort is just too damn low these days... Roll

It's a simple bit of code, based on the original Hot or Not, I used to run a text based version for GemStone IV.

I don't have a copy of the code, but if you or anyone else wanted to run such a site, the code is very simplistic as I remember, could probably ask someone in your alliance to code it for you. Hosting would be about $9 to $60 per month depending on traffic, so you'd want to make sure you had a website already for this rather fluffy site, or do ad revenue.

i recently found Fleetr http://www.fleetr.space/ a site similar to the one I remembered, but you need to authenticate with EVE online to enter.. This isn't needed and its a shame, I played with it for 3 minutes and voted myself up like 4 times... that shouldn't happen lol, the portraits and info is freely available online and no sign up should be needed imo
