i was in a low sec sansha den and suddenly a connection lost thing pops up on my screen. Now my internet was fine and i could instantly get back in the game after restarting it. The problem however was that my ship was warping to well nowhere rly when i got back in the game and after that warp my ship all on its own warps back to the site. And now there was a tengu and a proteus there. My question is can i get the isk that i lost back becuase there was nothing i could do here. And also who is at fault here ccp or where the guys that killed me messing with some shady stuff as it is quite suspicious that they where there as before i got dissconected they werent on d scan and one of em wasnt even in the system

thanks for any replies

Hi there, please file a support ticket under reimbursement. A game master will look into the issue.

tengu and proteus have the ability to fit covert ops cloaks so it is very likely you wouldn't see them on dscan. It is also very likely that one was checking another system while the other was hunting you and when they found you they called for backup.

expect a the logs show nothing answer.

Most socket closes are the result of the internet failing between you & CCP, a server somewhere has a hiccup and stops sending your data for 30 seconds or so, and as a result you disconnect. Unfortunately that means CCP's server logs simply show that you disconnected and then reconnected if it's that sort of problem. Hence 'the logs show nothing'. The logs only show something when it's actually a fault on CCP's server setup causing disconnects like a node death or the like.

I thought the OP was asking whether the disconnect was caused by the attackers

yea I got a little of that, but it seems rather unlikely.

I doubt the people attacking you were committing a crime by hacking CCP and/or your ISP just to get a killmail, if there's even any possible attack that could do it (it would require a rather massive vulnerability in CCP's software). The much more likely answer is that the people who killed you were hunting you shortly before you disconnected, and were still waiting (probably because they saw you disconnect and stay on d-scan) when you returned. And in that case you will not get reimbursed. It's frustrating, but look on the bright side: the emergency warp-out from disconnecting is probably the only thing that saved you from dying a few minutes earlier.

I agree, sounds like a disconnect and yeah I'd just go the reimbursement route.

There was that suspected case involving gyazo (or some other image hosting site) to find IP addresses of players who clicked the link. Sounded like a viable attack but this sounds like a basic disconnect between the client and server.

Sometimes eve disconnects without telling you, until you try to take an action. For example I've disconnected mid-warp to land at an empty station, only to try dock and get a socket closed message. When I log back in the station is busy as usual so I must have somehow not loaded those ships without knowing.

Perhaps the hunters could still see you but you couldn't see them as you'd already lost connection by that point?

This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

Its possible, but the thing is, you didn't die as a result of a DC, you were alive when you reconnected and died as a result of people now being in the site you were at when you warped back to grid after an emergency warp who then killed you, i wouldn't expect this to be covered as the server issue cannot be proven to be the cause of your death

No the attackers didn't disconnect you, put down the tinfoil hat.

"Socket Closed" just means there was an unexplained disruption in the connection between you and the EvE servers for more than a few seconds. It can be your computer, connection hardware, your ISP or any pieve of hardware between you and the server that is to blame.

CCP don't generally get any more info than you do, since Socket Closed is an UNEXPLAINED disruption..
