What happens to offline characters in destroyed/unanchored citadels?

Good day.

According to this thread: https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=6911758

Being docked and offline when the citadel is destroyed results in the ships/pods transporting in space.

Others describe the ships popping out and act like they would if the pilot logged off.

Older posts say that your active ship gets transported to asset safety while your pod dies and you get moved to medical bay.

EvE university says that active accounts have their active ship sent in space, but not what happens to offline pilots.

I can not find any official explanation anywhere.

I could build an Citadel, destroy it to see what happens.

Prefer to look it up, so wondering if there was a way to find out without testing it out in person.

Fly Safe.

I can't point you to an official description, but I can say that the answer is that if you are offline in a ship dock in a citadel that explodes or is unanchored, you appear in space somewhere in the system when you log back in. It happened to me once while I was in a shuttle, and while didn't look exactly where I logged back in, I go the impression that it wasn't where the Citadel was, but at some other random place.

The proposal to have the ship and/or pod destroyed was indeed the original idea of the development team, but that changed before the Citadel release so it has never been in the game. You and your active ship are just put back into space if asset safety is activated, whether you are online or not.

The only thing at risk and not either moved into space or to an NPC station when the Citadel is destroyed is any jump clones you have stored there which are indeed destroyed.

That explains why I found so many old: "you will be podded if citadel is destroyed", as it was the original design.

Great to hear an clear explanation, your experience aligns with the others and confirms what I suspected.

Thanks for taking the time and energy to answer my questions.
