Cheap initial fit for a Stratios

I've just started playing after a few years of wanting to start. I really like the idea of the wormhole exploration, and after a quick jaunt in a dinky Probe netted me 12 mil, I'm sure I want do some more.

Being a sandbox game I've set my current goal as getting a Stratios for exploring deeper into the wormholes, seeing as I got ganked by one. Problem is after looking into fittings on Osmium I've got a long wait ahead of me. The top fitting on the site has me waiting two months before I can fly a "good" fitting for the Stratios.

Essentially I'd like some help getting an inital fitting to fly. I really have no idea about fittings, I imagine I'll be flying a Probe for some time until I get the ISK and skills for the Stratios. I'm fine with the wait, I just want a minimum setup I could fly before getting to the fitting I've linked below.
Fitting I found on Osmium

Also wouldn't mind knowing if this is any good in the first place, it's a few versions behind. Fitting advice for the Probe or other exploration ships I should fly in the meantime needed too. Thanks in advance!

If you can't a covert ops, I see no point in flying a strat. If you are just hacking and scanning stick to frigates.

Do you have any advice for fitting out a Cheetah then?

Better forget about the idea to roam WH on Straitos for now. You can do this when you’ll have good combat skills with drones and in general good skill on ship and enough assets to buy few Straitos after losing it. For Straitos you need good fitting devices T2 or Faction, otherwise is no sense to put on such an expensive vessel T1 goods, used to craft T2 devices mainly.

You don’t need CovOps (for frigates) skills to drive a Straitos. The T2 Cheetah requires CovOps skills and to just sit on that ship you need over 20 days of skill learning. You can fly Astero without CovOps skills.

Your option is to choose between Astero and any T1 Exploration frigate.

My suggestion:
1. Use Astero for Low-Sec and Null-Sec exploration and combat exploration mainly, which is better.
2. Use T1 exploration frigates for WH firstly then jump to Cheetah for that purpose.
3. Use Straitos for Low-Sec or Null-Sec combat sites, like Sleeper sites are, and other exploration. With good assets, you can clear WH sleeper sites also.

Simple exploration fit:

1 Probe:

[Probe, Solitude Exploration Basic]
Core Probe Launcher I
Prototype Cloaking Device I

5MN Microwarpdrive I
Rangefinding arrays I
Data Analyzer I
Relic Analyzer I

Inertial Stabilizers I
Nanofiber Internal Structure I
Nanofiber Internal Structure I

Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I

Hobgoblin I x5

Core Scanner Probe I x16

2. Cheetah:

[Cheetah, Standard Exploration Fit]
Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
Core Probe Launcher I

5MN Y-T8 Compact Microwarpdrive
Rangefinding arrays I
Data Analyzer II
Relic Analyzer II

Micro Auxiliary Power Core I
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Nanofiber Internal Structure II

Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I
Small Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I

Core Scanner Probe I x1

Cheetah is a T2 ship .. that need some skilling too
https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Cheetah
a Probe is the T1
https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Probe

if you want to go for a Stratios (i did the same for rating and for exploration when i started to play - its a real good ship)
https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Stratios
you can go first into the Astero
https://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Astero

as you need the Amarr and Gallente Frigate on III anyways
its really good for Exploration too good and not so expensive start

now the bad news: if you want to go to Wormholes you really need a Covert Ops Cloaking Device II
http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online/item.php?type_id=11578
it makes no sens go without to a WH .. you can use it in HS and LS too and in LS i strong recommand you have it ..

for the fit .. i think i still have old fits of an astero and stratios but i need to login to eve and have a look .. i am in the office atm .. will have a look for you later .. it depends on the skills you allready have .. energy weapons, cpo, powergrid, scanning, hacking and such stuff

we can have a chat ingame tonight if you want .. maybe i can be some help

Yeah, but you should not fly these things without being to use the covert ops cloak (requiring cloaking IV, not a long train).

BTW Rexxar, you don't have to center and bold your fit. We all have good eye sights :)

Thanks for the replies.

In light of most advice in the thread, I'm training toward piloting the cheetah, seems to be the most recommended by you guys. Be a few days till I get to pilot with a cloaking device though, should be fun when I do. The wormhole's are risky but the probe is pretty damn cheap to fit out without the cloak, so the reward is far greater in my eyes. Hope I don't bump into any of you now I've said that!

its your EVE .. you can do what ever you want but dont forget:

Cheetah is a Frigate
Astero is a Frigate
Stratios is a Cruiser

After living in wh space for sometime the only advice I can give you is to skill into that cloak like everyone said and please make yourself a safe spot in the Wh before you go off to do the site. 9/10 times you are not alone and will be fishing in shark infested water.

Be safe.

Good progression would be Probe>Cheetah>Astero....then Stratios if you want to gank T3s

You can start killing bombers, hacking interceptors and badly fit asteros in t1 exploration frigates as they have a nice drone bay and slot layout. Magnate good armor tank, Heron can fit 2-3 ASB's.
People will run away from an astero or strat, t1 frig they mostly stay on grid with you and continue hacking :3
