How do I handle bribery?

I've been subjugated to a conudrum of a situation involving another user who has been providing assets to me in exchange that I support an endeavor of his considering my current lack of finances. I'm stifled as to how to treat this matter delicately without offending the one providing these "Gifts" or ending up further entrenched in his pocket. May someone kindly advise me in how to handle this properly?

There are two ways to handle a bribe

1) Accept it
2) Don't accept it.

If you choose #1 make sure the bribe is large enough to cover the hole where your integrity used to be.

I find that confusion around what to do with things someone gave to you very un Eve like. Given how the Eve universe is all about ways to get other peoples stuff in any manner possible the answer is easy. Take the stuff and know you are being true to Eve.

You are a capsuleer now. Any form of ethical values or moral standards have evaporated and became completely meaningless when you paid for the transfer to your first clone with the destruction of your original body.

So take his stuff and Pix Severus' advice.

Remove standings and insurance.

Play along, taking his resources, while looking for the most opportune moment to sell him out or just screw him over.

Then put a bounty on him using some of his own (former) assets to rub salt in the wound.

Transfer remaining assets to yet another alt with no history and act like it never happened.

You are now an upstanding citizen with a lucky inheritance.

Take as much stuff as you possibly can from him, play along with the "bribery" as long as you can maintain the rouse. Transfer the stuff to a new alt and biomass this one. You are less than a month old it seems, you won't have lost too much progress.

If you don't follow the rules, neither will I.

To summarize the situation, If I continue supporting him, the more the gifts flow in so to speak as he is vastly more experienced in terms of user time, and It is unwise to bite the hand that feeds.

if it is beneficial then keep it going. he gives you stuff, you do things for him, everybody wins, sounds more like a normal payment than bribery. If you stop seeing benefits then move along and say it was fun, but time to move on, and they should get that.

Only Bribery if you are being paid to do illegal stuff and the like or to Ignore the same. Are you being used as an isk launderer? Are you being paid to hack accounts for him to steal stuff from? Is he paying you off to not turn him in for stuff?

As far as I'm concerned, there are pretty much only two guiding principles in EvE:

1. Don't betray your own group. Sure you can but imo then you suck.
2. Don't do stuff that actually violates the game rules and/or EULA

Other than those, pretty much anything goes.

Just do whatever you want, and be ready for the consequences.

This is EVE, where you must think for yourself instead of letting others do the thinking for you. Unless you want to be an F1 monkey or a miner for the rest of your life.

A Minmatar warship is like a rusting Beetle with 500 horsepower Cardillac engines in the rear, armour plating bolted to chassis and a M2 Browning stuck on top.

To me, this sounds like a symbiotic relationship: both of you are benefiting. I thought maybe you were having a problem with freebies compromising your sense of personal achievement (I can understand that), but your reference to "biting the hand that feeds you" suggests that that's not your objection. So, what then? Are you feeling like a kept woman? In that case, perhaps try to transform your perception: the other party is currying your favour, so YOU are in the position of power. (This would likely be a total self-deception, as perhaps it's just the other player trying to be nice and helping out by throwing you scraps, but hey - whatever works for you.) Imagine the following: bribery is merely the inverse of extortion - if you were blackmailing/strongarming the other player, the dynamic would be very similar - you'd be getting those 'gifts' in exchange for your continued support, or protection, or whatever...

Alternatively, grow a spine (this may sound harsh, but I just can't put it any simpler.)

"Bribery" usually means "Hiring you to compromise the power structure you're a part of."

Like... leading the fleet you're flying with to its doom for a fee or selling corporate secrets.

If the person paying you isn't hiring you to backstab someone, it's more mercenary work than bribery.

Step 1: Make sure that your briber or the fact that you've been bribed is not easily connected to you. Forum alts work wonders.

I'm going to build a big wall that will keep the Gallente out, and they're going to pay for it!
