Too many Intel bots are taking advantage of logs to automate warning systems for safe ratting. This creates an unfair advantage compared to players actually working together and paying attention.

Even the most advanced bot monitoring intel channels still needs an actual player to type the intel into the channel in the first place. The advantages of a bot monitoring your logs are pretty slim compared to actually just paying attention yourself.

In comparison the advantages the chat logs provide for legitimate uses outweigh this sort of abuse, and anything CCP could do that would leave the logs readable to players would also leave them readable to bots with a little bit of effort.

Note, if you're talking about anything that automatically posts in intel channels that's not reading logs it's screen scraping or doing something similar, and is a bannable offense already.

Not even that, it's that whatever encoding they might possibly use it will inevitably be cracked, especially because it's possible to test and poke by creating data and knowing what the result should be.

Any information that is not sealed so that no one can read it will inevitably be able to be read by more than one person eventually, no matter how careful you are.

True, however anyone that bothers to crack encryption rather than just scrape the screen for the already-decrypted content should have their head checked.

Either OP knows something I don't, or his post is complete nonsense. Only actual chat messages get posted to chat logs. The only way they'd help you gather intel is if your targets speak in local. Unless there's some kind of chat command to get it dump a member list? But if that's the case, wouldn't it make far more sense to remove that command?

Instead, what I suspect is that the OP keeps missing targets or something and it's completely unfathomable that he just sucks at EVE.

What he'stalking about are apps that can be used to monitor chat logs you are in without you actually looking at them. When intel is reported, it gives you a notice of where the report came from so you can judge how far away it is, without you having to actually pay attention to intel yourself.

Some of them even have little maps built in that you can configure to tell you how many jumps away the report was.

Eve is like an addiction; you can't quit it until it quits you. Also, iderno

Ok, that's actually pretty cool. Maybe we ought to throw that into a F&I request and make it official. :) Everyone keeps requesting to remove local, maybe something like that could be a component of a suitable intel replacement.

Yes, the genesis of this thread is likely a recent Reddit thread where a bunch of illiterates suddenly learned of this, and then one particular illiterate told the rest of the illiterates that it's a "bot" and then the whole pack of simians got very up in arms about the "botting" tool and gave their internet spaceship legal degrees a real workout.

After it was ultimately concluded that they were, in fact, moutbreathing nitwits, apparently the only thing left to do was come to F&I and ask for the game to be changed.

"Help, I'm bored with missions!"

The Russians have intel bots for that. All you need is monitoring visual changes in the local list and extracting information from that.

When you don't know the difference between there, their, and they're, you come across as being so uneducated that your viewpoint can be safely dismissed. The literate is unlikely to learn much from the illiterate.
