It's been the norm for a long time now, that ALT characters who are mostly afk are being used to permanently camp null sec systems of different corporations and remain permanently cloaked.

This has introduced a big imbalance to the game since these afk characters are systematically placed all over eve's universe so that alliances can have capital targets on regular basis by using a character that can be left unattended for hours and hours on end and have zero risk of being found. This discourages game play from the corporations that are being camped since there is no way to find the known hotdropper or even know if he is active or not. Since the hotdroppers know how much this affects game play, they also will do this even if they are gone from the computer the whole day just to grief the system corporation being camped. CCP, correct me if I'm wrong, but i do not believe cloaking was intended to be used in this way.

If this is going to continue to be allowed in the game, there at least needs to be a requirement that they are at the keyboard and active in some way or another. If there is no activity after X amount of time they should have a timer that decloaks them so they can at least be scanned down. This obviously can't be something really simple like you have to push f1 to remain active since that can be done easily by someone afk.

The basic bear strategy for a camper is to go to another system and rat. That forces the camper to be in the wrong system if afk, and makes them risk being decloaked, or have to sit there in the wrong system.

I usually wind up 5 systems away to do my pi, and I run the relics on the way if we are camped, so I'm literally gone for an hour if camped.

What is not necessary is changes to this system. Being able to put pressure on your economics is part of the game.

Nope...nada...Would you Feel better of Covert Ops cloaks dropped names from Local? I would feel better too.

(Cloaks up)

It's not safe out here. It's wondrous, with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross. But it's not for the timid.

This thread will be inevitably closed due to being redundant. That sort of thing is important, so that discussions can be anchored in one place rather than people needing to ping between dozens of threads and pages to find all the discussion. It also keeps the spam of topics down a tad. But this is a frequent enough discussion that they have a sticky thread, open forever, just so everyone can discuss it in one place. I now direct your attention to that thread.

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=397030&p=490

Note the number at the end there. That 490 is the page number. 490 pages of people discussing every single angle of cloaky stuff. If you are truly passionate about this, read the entire thread, or at least enough of it to understand that whatever thoughts you have on the subject most likely have already been aired and discussed to death.

But if you feel it must be discussed further, that place is where you should do it. Cheers.

AFK cloaking is the only counter to local.

Lordy! Once again, an afk player cannot harm you in any way shape or form.

If the player is cloaked and at the keyboard, then good for him/her for scaring the bejasus out of null-sec carebears.

This is not a signature.

Nul sec carebears and there whining about cloaky campers. Part of me laughs hysterically at them, the other gets tired of reading about your afk cloaky problems.
Try living in a high sec system with 20 or so characters in it at all times.
Is there a cloaked ship out there?
Are those combat probes in space searching for you or someone else?
Is that guy that just warped into the same ore belt and actual miner, or perhaps a spotter or warp in point for a gank squad?
Is that guy who just warped into your mission site a ninja looter, or a spotter for a gank squad?
That guy who has followed you for the last few star gates is he simply going the same way you are, or is he following you for a specific purpose? And that raises the question does he intend to do harm, or is he simply curious and bored so he is following you for something to do.

But enough of that
How do you know they are AFK?
How do you know they are cloaked?
They cannot do anything to you if they are AKF so what is the problem?
If they do something to you then they were not AFK so again what is the problem?

Op,

For starters, posting on a fresh forum alt drastically lowers your effectiveness as a persuasive speaker. It some ways your posting on said alt tars you with the same brush as the afk cloaky alt. In much the same way you have taken a minimal risk and effort approach to stage a specific attack. Fill in the rest of the cliche arguments here.

Next, it has been well documented that no harm has ever been done by an actual afk player, cloaked or otherwise. Instead, your disingenuous argument is really about the perception of imperfect Intel. On that topic there is actually a lot more room for discussion. I for one agree with your premise OP, that Intel should require work and I advocate the removal of instant local. Or as a stop gap mentioned above that cloaking should remove you from local. This would actually put an end to these threads once and for all.

Finally, thirty seconds of effort on your part would have prevented the needless kicking of this dead horse. Your idea has been a non starter for years. That hasn't changed. While we do appreciate not necroing an older thread, please stop the animal abuse.
