Why do Dreadnaughts require only Capital Ships III while Force Auxiliaries and Carriers require Capital Ships IV?

Aren't Dreadnaughts, Force Auxiliaries, and Carriers all on the same level as far as capital ships go? And why do Force Auxiliaries require Drone Interfacing V when they don't use fighters and are not primarily drone ships?

And why do Carriers and Supercarriers share the same requirements?

Okay, but why? What's the reasoning behind it being that way to begin with? Dreadnaughts and Carriers are both pretty similar in terms of strength as capitals, so why do Carriers require Capital Ships IV while Dreadnaughts only require Capital Ships III?

What's the reasoning CCP put forth for that being the case?

you start from a wrong point though.
the words reasoning and CCP in the same sentence.

that should answer your question as well.

Dreadnoughts counter carriers, carriers kill subcaps, if dreads were harder to get into carriers would have less of a check and be more dominant.
> higher reqs
> fewer dreadnoughts
> more carriers
> fewer subcap

I understand that. I guess my real question is why do Carriers require Capital Ships IV and not just Capital Ships III?

In my mind, this is how it should work:

Dreadnaughts, Carriers, and Force Auxiliaries should all have their own racial skills. Capital Ships III should be a requirement for those skills, along with specific skills related to the main modules for those hulls:

Dreadnaughts have Siege, which requires Tactical Weapon Reconfiguration I. So the racial Dreadnaught skills require that.

Carriers have Networked Sensor Array, which requires Fighter Hanger Management I. So the racial Carrier skills should require that.

Force Auxiliaries have Triage, which requires Tactical Logistics Reconfiguration I. So racial Force Auxiliary skills should require that.

That's honestly how I thought it did work until I decided to look into skilling into a Lif. Not only would it take longer to skill into than a Dreadnaught because of Capital Ships IV, but it also requires Drone Interfacing V, despite not being a drone ship, because you actually need the racial Carrier skill. I'd essentially have to skill into a Carrier to use a FAX, both of which are similar to Dreadnaughts in being capital ships, yet require greater skills.

Completely unintuitive.

Why you'd ever fly a capital without at least the cap ships skill to IV is beyond me. Kinda makes worrying about the difference moot. Dreads are designed to be less skill intensive from the start however, hence the lower requirements.

It's still plenty confusing. If flying a capital without Capital Ships to IV is a bad thing, then why not increase the requirements for Dreadnaughts? If it doesn't really matter, then why not decrease the requirements for Carriers and FAX to keep things consistent and intuitive?

It doesn't really make sense how it's setup now.
