A constructive criticism about why the June Excavator nerf is bullshit

Unforeseen Consequences...

So now that the heat of the announcement has faded, I just wanted to do this post to discuss about why the coming June nerf of Excavators is bullshit.

The first point is the reason why this is made. We are not stupid and we all know that this nerf is not about "making sure the economy stays healthy", but because of the April MER that showed the 7 Trillions of ISKs extracted in Delve. I don't like Goons and I am certainly not one to defend them, but let's be honest, this nerf is directed towards them. We all know that Goons is about metagaming since the night of their existence, and it's okay, it's not their fault, but CCP's fault since they actually create that metagaming to grind ISKs, and because of that, many people will get sanctioned, but not the ones targeted by this change. So I guess CCP Stupid almost did a heart attack when he saw the April MER and fall of his chair, directly called an assembly and hammered the good idea of the June nerf because "HURR DURR IZZI ISKS".

Basically, the more it goes, the more I am convinced that CCP wanted since the start to bait people into buying new accounts and injecting Rorquals to nerf them afterwards, because let's be honest, CCP knew about what's going to happen since the December Rorqual change, MAYBE they didn't expect Delve to hit that amount of extraction, but they sure as hell knew that the amount would be tremendous. The problem is that this nerf will not hurt the people targeted by it, but only people mining with between one and let's say three or four Rorquals, since big miners with over 20 Rorquals will just inject a new one to compensate the loss.

The Rorqual change was a big thing for EVE in December, it gave both new possibilities to miners and brought new PvP content for PvPers. The original change was overpowered, that is for sure, but since the second cut in the Excavators yield, the Rorquals are just fine with a pretty balanced risk vs reward if you count the fact that you actually have between 10 and 15 bills per Rorqual on grid. With the 9% yield cut and the 12.5% speed cut, the loss is going to be consequent.

So basically, I am okay with the yield cut and the anom respawn, whatever, but why in Raptor Jesus's holly name do you need to cut and extra 12.5% of the Excavator's speed ? Wasn't it enough to double the radius of the asteroids to be sure that the Excavators will sit 10km behind the asteroids ? 5 Excavators are worth more than the Rorqual and it's fit, can you please just stop making them easier and easier targets at each damn patch ? If you are going to be dicks about this patch, change the yield and the anoms respawn if you want, but for ****'s sake leave the damn Excavators speed alone, this is ridiculous, even a Higgs Dreadnought will be faster than the Excavators.

The change brings the Rorqual in line with the other Industrial Command Ships. A Rorqual supporting a fleet of Exhumers should have a higher yield than a fleet of Rorquals - just as an Orca supporting a fleet of Barges should have a higher yield than a fleet of Orcas. How CCP achieves this isn't important - it's the end result that counts.

Everybody seems to agree that Rorquals were overpowered and nobody should be surprised that there are tears when the ship is brought in line - we can debate whether CCP should have given us Rorqual on steroids for 7 months but it's still a much better ship than it was last October.

As for those who speculated and lost - they did OK if they got in early and Rorqual is still a very useful ship.

Don't worry about the Goons. I'll bet they maintain the mining output in Delve using the Rorqual as a command ship. You'll notice none of those minerals were exported.

Give the masses some chocolate, they'll love you then. Scale back the chocolate for their own health and they'll start kicking and screaming.
