Hi. First of all, thanks for this great game that does not cease to spark my imagination.
Quick disclaimers :
It might be a bit long.
I'm not from an english nationallity, so please forgive my mistakes and typos.
While I don't prentend having the skills to publish public overview settings, I understand how to use efficiently the current overview settings, even tho I'm too lazy to do anything too advanced with it.

Now to the matter at hand, here is my idea:
Can't we have quick filters as overview settings?

Here are my points :
1) I always thought that the current overview settings are too slow for quick actions and situationnal changes.

Let's say that at one point of the battle, I don't have the hostile pods in the overview (maybe to avoid cluttering the overview with non-critical targets for example).
Now the battle have changed, and I want the pods in, to have a clearing roundup let's say.
I then have to right-click on my 'Hostiles' tab, hover 'Load preset to tab', making sure to stay on it lest it disapear, and then search for the 'Hostiles w/ Pods' preset through all the others, including the brackets ones.

Another example, I don't have the same presets for Kspace and Wspace for the same tab, and I have to often switch between them as I go in and out WHs.

2) When I want to make a small change, I have to change a lot of other tab settings to synchronize everything.

This rather concerns the number of preset I have to keep to have all the options.
For example, some of the presets for my 'Hostiles' tab could be :
- Hostiles
- Hostiles - no pods
- Hostiles - no NPC
- Hostiles - no Structures/Anchorables
- Hostiles & Friendlies
- Hostiles & Friendlies - no pods
- Hostiles & Friendlies - no NPC
- Hostiles & Friendlies - no Structures/Anchorables
And it could go on and on.
The problem with this, is that if I want to make a change in hostiles, I have to do it on all the other 'Hostiles' presets.
Which is a real pain, and a source of confusion and mistakes if I forget one.

Here comes the quick filters.
These would be just like the inventory filters, which I think are really good and really handy.
After all, the overview is just an inventory of what is in space, so the logic should also apply I believe.

For example, to have the functionallities of the above presets, I could just have the following filters :
- Is Friendly (Adds Corp/Alliance/Fleet/Good standing pilots)
- Is Hostile (Adds War targets/Criminals/Bad standing pilots/limited engagement targets)
- No Pod (removes the pods)
- No NPC (Removes the NPC)
- No Structures (Removes the structures)
Heck, let's go wild and add a 'Is neutral' filter.

The objective is to simplify the process to make it accessible for new players, and make it even more powerfull and less frustrating for veterans.
And in all honesty, after all this time, I think the overview settings are due for a rework (or at least a bit of love) anyway.

I also have UI implementation ideas, but otherwise that's about it I think.
Sorry for the long post. I hope to get constructive comments on my idea (even tho this is the internet).

Have a nice day, and Fly Safe!
A carebear.

TL;DR : Inventory filters, but for overview instead of current overview settings.

You do know there are a lot of packs that will help you with this.

only major issue with the overview is I singe areas lime FW there are too few options and that it is not easy to understand how to use unless someone teaches you

As the self proclaimed God of fillets i must say toy probably don't know how to usr the overview. It's much more clear cut and user friendly than the inventory fillets. This change would make it much harder for most ppl to use

I do. I'm not asking for help.
I want to help the new players by not having to have someone to teach you.

Also I'm not too much in FW but, couldn't it cover these issue by letting the player add their own options using detailed filters?

But that's just it the way it is done n the inventory is hard for people to figure out even after being taught. Hell it's so bad many people look as it once when they start and then completely forget it exists. Then i have to deal with them in the forums asking for sobering to be implemented that does what filters do better.

Things are buried under menus within menus unless you know where something is categorised and what menu that category is under it takes forever and a bunch of trial and error.

Fw all ccp needs to do is make militia and militia ally two separate things -.- but that's just to hard ain't it would take yippy a whole lunch break I'm sure

Legacy Code says no. Maybe in 18 months.
