Advise on PVP fits

I have been testing some fits with a brutix using a drake as an adversary, the drake even with a low skilled toon seems to hit pretty good, went through the brutix's shields easy enough but the tables turned as soon as it hit armor, the fit held and the drake clearly lost.

So based upon this my skills in armor and shields is almost identical with shields being stonger, but I like the way armor holds up, so I know fights always are "it depends" but as PvP players what tank do you have more success in?

Well, guess no help, that doesn't bode well to try my hand at pvp if there's no good hints from players, Roll bah, forget pvp.

This one can be locked please.

Mate, relax a bit Cool

On T1 hull shield is generically weak against EM and strong against explosive, armour being the opposite.

I would hazard a guess that the drake had EM missiles loaded which made the shield go down quicker than armour.

In the info about the ship it will show you the ships profile.

I always preferred shields over armor for a variety of reasons, some subjective:
1. Reps happen at the start of the cycle for shields, allowing me to micro manage and bait tank easier.
2. I can buffer fit shields without sacrificing speed.
3. Minmatar is my favorite race, and their t2 shield resists are amazing.
4. No sacrificing damage for tank with shields.
5. I lose less slave pods this way, as that is the big draw of armor in my mind.

Armor will usually be able to have more EHP than shield on any given class of ship, but for me the benefits of shields almost always outweigh them, even my Navy Slicer with 2 mids usually is a shield tank fit, so I willingly sacrifice tackle just to be able to shield tank (ceptors and dictors ought to be the ones getting tackle anyway).

Armor tank uses low slots which competes with damage mods. Shield uses mid slots which compete with tackle/propulsion/Ewar.
If you have an armor tank don't even think about your shields, if you have a shield tank know that you die as soon as the shield goes down. Comparing the shields of a brutix vs drake is apples to oranges.

Armor is generally for brawl, shield generally for kite, drake is something of an exception it can brawl. with shields use hardeners not amps, they are more effective, can be heated, and they allow you to save sp by not training the resist skills.

If you're looking to learn pvp join FW or RvB and dont fly a brutix or drake as your first ships in the fray. Instead being new to pvp dont try and solo and stick with buffer tanking. Reasons are to not become discouraged when you get destroyed over and over again while trying to pvp solo and two, less things to try and manage while keeping you adrenaline down while pvping. So if you heed to this word of caution then you want your buffer resists (wether shield or armor) at least level 4 across the board. After getting your feet wet and getting smacked a few times you'll go from there and figure out how to manage your cap with skills and "mouse clicks". Frigs and dessies for now bro then you can start gambling with those more expensive ships.
