The state of solo low sec roaming?

I left in 2012 and returned about a week ago.

I used to roam around in low sec in a frigate, destroyer or cruiser, mostly flying solo, looking for a good fight. Now and then I caught a miner to ransom. It was fun and relaxin at the same time!

I have yet to find a single fight. Perhaps I'm in the wrong regions, I don't know.

So, is it possible to find fights flying solo in low sec anymore? Do people mine in low sec?

Try faction warfare areas, and try to pick fights in the complexes.

I don't think people mine in low sec but there are a few ill-informed people that still do, I don't know why.

Yes and Yes.

Much of the LS content has moved to the faction warfare areas, although some can still be found along the pipes to null-sec and trade hub shortcuts. what this also means though is that there are fairly large areas of low that have become quite quiet and some industry does go on there, either HS dwellers doing day trips into low for better ore, drug manufacturers gas huffing, or cap builders taking advantage of the thukker arrays (which are thankfully getting converted and nerfed) or people hunting for clone soldier tags.

if your looking for the gud fites then head to the FW areas, particularly the gallente/caldari warzone (the amarr/minmatar one has always been the quieter of the two and is seeing a noticable lack of activity lately)
If you are aiming to hunt for miners etc then take a look at the map and find areas with lower numbers of ship kills, but higher numbers of rat kills.

I've found lowsec to be very disappointing and overrated. Maybe it was super awesome years ago but that's just been my experience. I don't even bother anymore. Usually when I feel like solo roaming around in a Frigate, I do my best impression of Suitonia in a Kestrel and he has written a beautiful guide that's like 50 pages long.

The Guide with video here
@suitonia
He even streams often! He loves Kestrels

If everyone is roaming in lowsec who are you hoping to find? Other roamers? That depends how many there are. Better to find yourself a system to be a pirate in, and kill the people who come through.

This post brought to you by CCP's alpha forum alt initiative. Playing the eve forums has never come cheaper.

The content lowsec had like back in 2012, is nothing like the same, you will not have roam around for a couple jumps and have content already. You have to roam around for hours, and only maybe would you find something, and that something might be a frigate, or a gatecamp and occasionnally a hotdropper.

Don't bother lowsec anymore.

Everyone who says go fw, yeah have fun trying to point warp stabbed farmers, there are better things to do than to spend your whole day off from work just to kill a 2mil stabbed frigate.

Solo'ing is very hard in eve now. The only way i do it is fit up a t1 bc, or something cheap, and go down in a blaze of glory, i usually get to kill a pirate cruiser or something worth much more than my t1 bc

I just returned recently as well. No one is around basically. I see 30k players are on, but beats me where they are. WHs are mostly dead as well. I have been though hundreds with barely an engagement....

Agree that the solo fights are in the PW plexes. Pretty fun stuff. Too many of the ships in plexes are LP farmers excessively and cravenly using warp stabs. But some are looking for good solo pvp, just like you. If you join an FW militia, you'll be able to see which systems are currently likely to be hotter, and probably have more pvp traffic.

My experience in Minmatar FW is as follows:

In the area there are a lot of very skilled and knowledgeable players (mostly pirates) and a lot of LP farmers, but little in between.
Right now, my experience suffers a lot, because I tend to fly around for an hour trying to get a good fight, which usually doesnt happen because either they want to blob me or dont engage. Everybody just wants to play it safe and only engages if he has a good chance of winning. There are also some fair fights on paper, however many people have extremely good knowledge of ships accumulated over the years and how to engage them, along with bling on their ships, implants and boosters. If you dont have all of that, youre in trouble.

So in the end I usually end up losing my 1v1's, because I engage a ship which is either superior to mine, or I do not have enough bling fitted or I simply do not have enough routine and make a mistake, because I returned after a long break just a couple of weeks ago.

So yeah, it is extremely hard to find good 1v1 nowadays. I have a feeling that a lot of the average players either have given up or cant be bothered anymore hunting around or patiently wait for hours just to get a kill. It is slowly but surely starting to **** me off.

Either you are a vet with lots of experience and money and farm kills, or you blob in a gang - but there is little in between.

I don't look for PvP but sometimes it just happens. I bailed on a guy a few weeks ago (in a worm hole) 'cause I thought he was part of a gang but as it turned out he was solo. I was multi-boxing three Skiffs and he was in a Nemesis, I could've took him but it simply looked too easy so I carried my three half loads of Arkonor, Crokite and Bistot back to the gate which was (luckily) still there and dialed down the drama on the way home.

Forum Rep for a bunch of characters, couple corps and one seriously Lost In Space multiboxer.

Update:

I have actually managed to find a few fights. A good 1v1 and caught a miner mining in low sec the other day. I've also lost a few fights.

And this is without going to the FW areas yet! But from the sound of it, it might not be a bad idea to continue roam the non-FW areas either. But I'll check them out also.

You see that's one of the things I always likes about Eve. It really does not matter what anybody says.

So I imagine a player scrammed in his battleship getting slowly taken apart by a lone super frigate flying under his guns screaming "But solo PVP is dead!!!!"

Well, I did some FW fights like 2 weeks ago. I roamed between Mara and Tama. Generally... you can only find some fights during weekends, and still not much. But they surely still exist.

You'll need atleast 60 - 70 million for a faction fit garmur/worm with T2s; otherwise, get out of FW.

FW is not for noobs.

Get good.

I kind of agree, but my experience soloing in Min FW has been a little different. For fights in plexes, here's what I've experienced, in a rough order of most often to least often.

Vs. a skilled solo pirate, often in a shiny faction frig
Vs. a skilled pirate bait ship + gang
Vs. a warp-stabbed WT LP farmer, who runs
Vs. a lower-skilled/newer bro WT or pirate
Vs. a skilled solo Amarr WT
Vs. some dweeb pretending to be solo, but actually baiting with an alt, with his main waiting to make it 2 vs. 1.

I agree that fights aren't that frequent. In a couple of hours, I might get 1-2 fights. But instead of looking for fights, I go out looking to capture plexes. For the LP, and for the cause! heh The fights just happen, because you're sitting in a focal point (a plex), or you're going into one.

Maybe not very leet pvp, but IMO it's interesting. You're solo in low sec, and there are all kinds of wrong decisions that will get you blown up.
