ME / PE / Copying from another station.

I am having trouble researching my prints at a citadel. The citadel is in the same system as the print, but the print is at an NPC station. I can see and load the print in the citadel, but can not preform any functions with it (PE/ME/Copy). What am I missing?

I remember some time back my previous corp had prints locked down that I could copy at a pos without having to have possession of it. Is there a way to do the same here?

As this is not an NPC citadel, I am lyre of leaving a high value print there for fear of loosing it if the citadel is destroyed or moved.

You can't lose a blueprint in a structure. it just drops into asset safety.

As whether you can research it: Does it have the appropriate service modules for that? Not all structures allow for you to do research or manufacturing.

The blueprint must be in the facility where you intend to submit the job. If the print is physically located in an NPC station - that is the only place you can use it. If you want to research at a Citadel, you have to take the blueprint there.

NPC stations are slow, expensive and very safe. Engineering Complexes are faster, less expensive but there is an element of risk. Your BPO is safe but the research you were doing may be lost if the structure is destroyed before the job completes.

As Do Little says, you can ONLY use a blueprint in the same facility it is located in. You may be misinterpreting the control range skills for industry and science- they only allow you to remotely manage blueprints/jobs in the structures they're physically located in. They dont allow you install jobs X jumps away from their "physical" location.

As of the Crius expansion which overhauled industry, everything must be located at the facility being used.

A friend is copying titan BPOs in nulsec, in a Raitaru, because there is no risk of loss. With asset recovery, the BPOs can be moved to another citadel in the same system, or the closest NPC station in lowsec.

In hisec, the closest NPC station will still be in hisec. Most hisec systems also have stations.
