Just started playing this game for the first time a few days ago 17/01/2012, right away I was hooked, /golf clap ccp

Anyways, DX11!!!!! game looks great with DX9 but... I would really love to be using my graphics card to its full potential.

Any hints or thoughts on will, if, when, why, how, yes, no, maybe so? EVE would be "/drool" with DX11!

Somebody suggested we already have DirectX 10 on the new V3 ships, but I know my client only has DX9 Res textrues with the exception of the Character textures, as those aren't identified.

Important to note: V3 is a shader. Shaders are not dependent on DirectX to my knowledge; though the DirectX used will either make them look better or worse.

As for when, I have no idea. Maybe never.

DX9 to DX10 is a big change, 11 is more of an improvement with some more generic features for GPGPU.

Mars is right that the shaders aren't DX10. Performance would be improved hugely though if they kept the visuals and just ported.

DX10 is still being rolled out and it may be a few years before they roll out DX11 when DX9 users get to around 1% or less.

But most people these days already have DX11 cards. They could just put up posters or something to attract more players.

This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

No they don't.

No DX10 support I can see?

I dont think ccp is using any dx10 support yet because of mac is being a ****** about it but they seem to have the tools and pipelines to make it possible and take fuller advantage of it.

FXAA and tessellation would be sick additions to the game. The new textures do help adding an actual surface texture would just add some jaw dropping immersion to the EVE universe.

First, they need to get regular AA, bloom and volumetric lighting to work consistently in the game.

If the steam profiles provide any info, there's still quite a few 8800GT era cards still in use by many gamers.

^ Much wisdom to be had here and ccp has in the past demonstrated they work very closely around things like these about technology roll ins and technology roll outs.

Most players on laptops who aren't serious gamers would have trouble with this change. It's not worth it - you have a nice system, but most of us don't have that nice of equipment.

Sorry, but please don't try to "force" us to update our reasonably nice equipment to still play.

don't see why adding DX11 would be an issue for people playing on "non-gaming" computers/laptops, you can /disable it and play visually impotent mode....

And.... people that have the ability to get 300fps with visuals on maximum can play comfortably in bliss mode

The new features of DX11 mainly support "natural" surfaces like rockfaces and such. There's little real benefit for the usual polished metal which makes up most of what is seen in EvE Online.

In a few words, too much cost in development/needed graphics processing power for too little, if any, gain.

There's plenty of opportunities to integrate some DX11 features particularly tessellation. For instance adding depth to the features on the surface of planets. Adding depth to the seams, electronics, and living quarters on ships. The metal grates and furniture in the CQ could have a more life-like texture. Paneling on stations could look less like a fused poly model.

Also multi-threaded rendering could help smooth things out a bit, especially considering most people now have multi-core processors.

MMO's have to be really careful about updating their minimum reqs, and eve has always eered on the side of caution because the fan base here is (relatively) small but dedicated, and so cutting people off even if you give them months of notice is kinda a no go.

Between Mac clients (which couldn't properlly support DX10), laptops (who aren't upgradable) and a lot of users who either don't know how or don't want to spend the money to get new cards, its just not going to happen.

Considering they have just re-done the graphics engine, and it looks awesome as it is, they aren't going to screw around and re-do stuff all over once again.

See, if they were going to allow multiple modes, I would rather they put the effort into implementing a wireframe mode ^_^ 99% of the time I could care less about all the eyecandy and would love a stripped down interface with minimal wireframes or even icons. Most of the time I play so zoomed out that is all I can see anyway.

The problem is, adding modes generally has a real impact on testings/debugging, which can really weigh down a project, esp on with such a massive legacy codebase as the EvE client.

Because a steaming pile of poo still stinks if you are or are not an immortal.

There's a few MMOs that are updating their engine for DX11 support. I believe there's still a single client with options to enable/disable the features.
