I was watching the movie Alien and when they explore that strange planet, I wondered in my head if you can do stuff like that in Eve Online? Or is it all spaceship battles?

Hi there.

Currently Eve Online is limited to space engagement's only. There used to be a game called Dust514 that was attached to the Eve universe. Players would engage in a first person shooter styled game on the planets and they were able to call Eve Online pilots for reinforcements. However as it stands today, Eve Online is limited to space.

Combat is not the only side of Eve however. Pilots can engage in activities such as space exploration, fleet combat, industry, logistics. There are endless possibilities within Eve. Feel free to take a look at this chart to see if any of the activities interest you.

That map is cool. I like the part about exploring wormholes. I just started the activities quests....how would I even start looking for wormholes though?

So, my recommendation would be that you complete the tutorial, career agents and Sisters of Eve Epic Arc. These quests will give you a good understanding of the basics of Eve Online, and some assets to get going (see below).

As to starting out in wormholes, you need to work out what activities you want to do. Do you want to do exploration, combat, mining, logistics? When you know you can start training. You may find a benefit to looking for a wormhole group that is new player friendly, who may be able to help you.

For now, if you need questions answered in game, feel free to ask in the Rookie Help channel (Only available until your account reaches an age of 30 days), or one of our Help Channels. (English Help can be accessed through the F12 menu).

  • To start the Career Agents, press: F12, and click on the Show Career Agents button.
  • When you are ready to start the Sisters of Eve epic arc ask someone in the Help channel/s to link the agent you need to talk to.

Best of luck.

Firstly a warning: Any ship and implants you take into a wormhole, you should regard as already lost.

You know how early on there are five optional tutorial chains, the career agents? One of those will teach you the art of using probes. The same skills and modules needed to complete that tutorial are used to probe down wormholes.

Wormholes work a bit like hard to find temporary stargates, and many of them lead to systems you can't get to via any other means.

These systems come in six flavours ('C1' through 'C6'), and they offer no protection at all against player pirates and generally have difficult NPC combat encounters. A 'C1' wormhole combat site has NPC combat encounters that are slightly easier than level 4 agent missions, and they get tougher from there. 'C6' combat encounters require fleets of experienced players.

You can find sites without combat encounters in wormholes and these should be what you look for at first.

Wormholes? Never go into them without a probe launcher, probes, mobile depot, and a cloaking device. Bookmark both sides of the wormhole. Then continue in.

Scary place, those.

OP the basic answer to your question is both yes and no.
Yes for a while there will be systems and planets you have not explored. Stay in the game long enough and you will eventually explore everything there is to explore.
No there are no planets or systems in EvE that have not been explored by someone.

Not so scary really but heed the advice.
A friend of mine did not.
After a month of uselessly trying to find a way out of a worm hole with no probes left he finally left behind his T3C and podded himself out of the worm hole.

To ISD Barstolode I would add take MANY sets of probes, they are small and one never knows when you may need them. In my worm hole days I never went anywhere without at least 4 sets of probes.
As an explorer especially in worm holes using the expanded launcher and carrying at least one set of combat probes would not be a bad idea either. I always used combat as my go to probes and carried core probes for the rare times I could not lock a signature.

All space is either owned or habitated and that includes wormholes and everything else we used to "discover" like exploration sites are now on your hud with a fat icon in space as soon as you enter a system.

So no, there is nothing to "discover" anymore which has all but killed the excitement of exploration in this game.

Ugh
