PVP & PVE can co-exist!!!

tried to love EVE but after playing a few years, give up because too much commitment required
cant just have a fun few hours like mining in peace or doing something without always watching your back

yes, i know EVE is a Bad Ass PVP game, so that is why it is in limbo for years, after all this time, player numbers static.
too many wolfs and not enough sheep.

even now, i just dip my toe in to see if it has changed enough for me to enjoy it again, no, still the same, even thought cosmetically it has improved in fact.

so where is the problem?

although EVE has always been a PVP game, most players in the world, are not hardcore PVP by nature

so EVE cannot keep most of their potential customers. EVE dominant postion as the sole sandbox space game is now really threatened by games like star citizen and others

still EVE have the lead at the moment if EVE can make it such that PVP and PVE can co-exist, how? i am sure such questions have been asked in the past,

now that i have some experiences as a player of few years, i would suggest the following to make EVE more player friendly and still maintain the PVP hardcore element

1) create a new class of really tough ships for PVE palyers, that only can be brought by real cash or some type of credits that cannot be earn in EVE

2) these class of ships which are just souped up version of existing ships can be destroyed if enough firepower is deployed
so that will still allow ganking to happen but will required a big fleet

3) these ships once destroyed can be redeemed by in game insurance but will be gone forever if not insured, so the risk element is still intact

4) these ships, especially industrial ships have some weapon slots so that ganking can be a lot more challenging and can happen more often since the PVE players can now gang together to provide greater firepower to dither gankers who then have to assemble a big fleet to take out a herd of " grazers " who then can also hire a fleet of merc on standby to jump the gankers
since these tough ships will not go down so fast

5) these ships may have to be tagged in such a way that concord will only respond in specifc ways or situation
so that it is worth the while for the gankers to take on these ? elephants

then, EVE will have epic battles going on all day because the hardcore PVE people can now fight back but in a way like a buffalo vs a lion where one is active aggressive while the other is passive aggressive

where we will have huge " herds " of miners ganging together to raise the bar for gankers to field even large pride of lions to take them down, but beware, it may be a trap where hired hunters are in waiting.

if possible also provide for arm chair tourist who will just rather view the fight but cannot intervene, best realistic recruitment possible

this way, everyone can have fun in EVE and cannot complain if they are screwed because now, every aspect of game play has been considered and catered for and best of all, we can fly the most expensive ship and even thought it is destroyed, it can be redeemed reasonably with insurance

  1. Have you seen the Skiff?
  2. A game will not, and should not even try to, appeal to everyone. Attempting to do so will make it mediocre and bland.
  3. Invincible, pay-to-win mining ships that could stand off fleets of determined miners. That you don't even lose, since you apparently get one free when it blows up. Sure that'll happen.
  4. PvE players can group up right here and now. They just... don't.

further to add
the hired hunters or Merc fleet can also be NPCs

i.e the players can pay to create a battle fleet that they can call to their location when needed

of course, the bigger the fleet, the longer it takes to appear, thereby provide a opening for gankers

also, the hiring cost can be such that players have to balance the profit that remain after all these expenses

such fleet has a time limit duration based on the hiring cost

the best part is the " buff " part,

now, gankers dont know if the merc fleet is make up of real players, a mix of real and NPCs or even totally NPC fleet

but one thing is for sure

player can now create their own EPIC battle and not wait for some one to make a move, which take like forever

in the end, i do not have the patient or stamina to play such a slow game

hopefully, with the above mechanism,

epic battles will be happening all the time because everyone,
even a lone solo miner can field his own fleet, if he have enough ISK and give gankers a run for their money

what are you talking about?
read carefully,
it is not P2W
it is more like PAY to GET SHOT AT but WATCH OUT, I CAN BIT BACK a little!!

notice, i did not say, soupup weapons, but tough " industrial ships " with some ability to shoot back
or else no one will buy into it if it is not a viable option

definitely, no soup up version of fighting ships, EVE already very good in this area
just give PVE'r some fighting chance, then more " sheep " will be willing to come out to play

therefore more players, and more important, more money for EVE to do better or else other similar MMOs who can retain more customers will win eventually

these ships cannot be brought by in game currency, need real world hard cash, so hardcore PVP'r cannot and must not benefit from this, what is the point of having lots of players in the game but mostly not paying their due

the above mechanism do not affect current game mechanics but will provide even more opportunities for PVP, grievers, gankers
and epic battles

win win for everyone

no, of course not, what is the point of invincible, it breaks the immersion and it is too artificial

what we need to do is to provide a fighting chance for people who do not normally like ganking or PVP type activities to survive long enough to provide more entertainment for themselves and for others as well

all ships MUST be eventually be destroyed, the only limit is how much firepower needed and how long it takes to do it
of course, since these ships cost real hard cash, they can be redeem with in game insurances so therefore it sort of soften the blow but still costs

You said in the OP: "1) create a new class of really tough ships for PVE palyers, that only can be brought by real cash or some type of credits that cannot be earn in EVE"

That is pay to win.

It's not just a case of winning against the people that are trying to shoot you, it's about winning against the other people trying to run PvE content, too.

If a pirate looks at one of these "really tough ships", he's not going to say "well, time to get my friends together for an EPIC space battle!", he's going to go "feck it" and simply move on to some other less well defended target exactly as he does today. The result being that people who don't pay to use this new class of ships will get shot, while the P2W ships can rake in money completely uncontested.

Remember: When you're attempting to run PvE content in the face of PvP danger, you're competing on an even playing ground with the other people trying to run similar PvE content. Everyone is facing the same problem and must try to figure out the best solution. Your suggestion breaks that balance and simply hands victory to whoever happens to pay cash to CCP.

Seriously, what's wrong with the Procurer and Skiff? They're both immensely tanky ships that already accomplish the same thing you're trying to do here: Provide targets that are incredibly difficult to kill and can even put up a little more of a fight than your standard mining ships, thanks to their drone bonuses.

you are right to say that PVE'r do not group themselves, because most PVE'r tend to be solitary gamers
and i can bet you my bottom dollars that they are loaded with real cash, while, likely most hardcore PVP games are kids with too much time and not enough cash

if you spend too much time making money, i doubt that you will have too many friends available on short notice to with with

also, even in nature, wolfs gathers in packs, while prey animals not so much, i.e. they do wonder off by themselves

i myself is already over 60 and i can especially now with skill injectors, buy my way to the very top, no problem, i have lots of cash, but what is the point of being at the top, suffering lots of tension doing hurtful things to people, i have seen enough **** in real life and have all the top VR hardware to play more fun games

so am i in the wrong game, yes and no,
no because, if i want, i can be as nasty as the next A..hole but i have already been q A.. hole to many and i have no desire to do it even thought some requires it
yes, because, EVE may be a game for a " certain type of people " of which i have grown out off

ultimately, if EVE becomes stale , it will eventually dies.

i feel EVE is a intellectual game but too lopsided and therefore appeal to only a niche
it do not have to be like that.

i am sorry, i think i do not understand P2W

how do a miner in EVE P2W when he is sitting inside a tough ship surrounded by his merc fleet trying to fight off a large ganker fleet that will eventually pound him to death, while concord is just watch to see that no rules of engagement is violated

he will lost everything finally but what a battle, the gankers are not going Scot free either
he lost his insurance "again" and all his minerals and have to rehire the merc "again"

game mechanics, still the same as now but up a lot of notches higher, more fun for all
and most important, now the sheep cannot complain and therefore they will return again

what is the point of ganking anfd grieving to the level where gamers leave
less sheep for you and less investment for EVE

It's not lopsided, it's pretty well balanced. People who have no interest in PvP can happily mine, haul, trade, run missions, explore, socialise, run PI, research, manufacture and fudge knows what else in nigh complete safety. You'll always get resistance when suggesting ideas that attempt to make such activities even safer than they are, already.

I like the idea of PvE in EVE, but not in the way you are setting it up. Honestly, they could easily switch High Sec over into a PvE zone already. Other than Gankers like CODE, it already runs mostly as a PvE area with Low, Null, and WH being PvP.

Really, all they would need to do, is flip a switch and have it so Players can not damage other Players in High Sec. there you go, a whole PvE Zone.

But this would cause problems if that was all they did. It wouldn't balance some things. Namely, the Mining the most. Bots are already out there going to every High Sec system and mining up every single ore they can, and still never running out while they work 24/7. Without a system in place to stop them, there would be too much Ore and it would become worthless. But they can't just remove most of the belts from High Sec to make the Ore more rare and incentive to go to Low and Null where there is more, as BPs need so MUCH of the Common low level ores, that it wouldn't be able to support itself, and the High Sec ore would be costing much more than the Null and WH ore because there is so little and you need so much of it.

To balance this, I would say Items would need to come in 3 Tiers, instead of the normal 2. Ships and Equipment of T1 would only need ore and items found in High Sec. T2 would only need items and Ore from Low Sec, and T3 items and ships would need the stuff from Null. But at this point, you're changing the entire game structure and how everything from the Systems, the ores in a Belt, the BPs, Everything in the game works.

And that's just balancing the PvE and PvP Ores. Not including anything else such as 'PvE' Ships, and 'PvP' ships.

-

Honestly, what I say they might be able to do as an idea, is make a smaller version of Eve that is PvE only. Much more compact so no Titan or Capital ships. No ships focused on PvP stuff, and no items for PvP either. Such as no warp disruption fields or Items that prevent ships from Warping, as the rats don't ever try to warp away. Criminal and Concord system would need to be reworked to as 'Susp' that steal loot from other players would now be the Criminals, unless they completely remove that ability too.

It would end up being a cut down version of Eve, but would probably be much cheaper to maintain and host, with less strain on the Systems as there wouldn't be any PvP Combat to Simulate, there would be a lot less WHs and Star Systems/Regions, and a lot less Items and ships as well.

But it would get people playing happily, and please those that like PvE and not PvP. Could even have this simpler PvE eve be Free to Play, while having the 'Main' Eve that we have running now back to P2P, keeping the 2 games seperate by Characters An 'Alpha' Character that can only access the the PvE world. And a 'Omega' character, that can access the PvP world.

With how much it would need to change tho, there would be no way to 'Cross' them. You could not move a character from 1 world to the other. Nor items, ships, money, or anything. Because of this a Single Omega and a Single Alpha Character can train skills at the exact same time. Treating them like 2 different accounts. Or they can actually have it as everyone allowed a Single 'PvE Eve' account, and not able to Multibox with other 'PvE Eve' accounts like Alphas are Restricted, but CAN have a 'PvE Eve' game open, with unlimited number of 'PvP Eve' games running, as each would need to be a Paying Account to access the PvP game.

Basically, think of it like a PvE Demo version of Eve that is Free and PvE, but more smaller in scale. And a big full version you have to pay for that has much more content and is PvP focused.

CCP have stated that less than 1% of cancelled subscriptions are attributed to ship loss.

Like I said, it's not a lopsided balance between PvE and PvP fans. All in all, it's fairly good. There are plenty of people - in fact I would say the majority are pretty happy that there's always the possibility that a mean ol' ganker will come and try to deprive them of their stuff. Personally, I love that part of the game, it's why I'm such a huge fan of it and am sad there's not more like it.

And I say that as one of the PvE types.

That way, the new PvE zone wouldn't be mercilessly exploited.

No. Anything that can only be bought with real money and not with ISK is a terrible idea and needs to stay out of EVE.

OP, if you want to mine and be able to fight back, use a Procurer or a Skiff. These ships are tough to kill and have considerable firepower as well. Also, please learn how the game works before suggesting dumb ideas like this one.

If you had read on, I pointed out a fix for that. Namely that the 3 'Zones' High, Low, and Null, would be Seperated. The low level tier stuff you would find in High Sec, like Ventures, or basic T1 ships, would require ONLY ore and items crafted and found in High Sec. While T3 items and ships, like Titans, and warp disruption fields items would only be crafted with Ore and Items crafted from Null Sec only.

Ore, and minerals found in those ore, would no longer be used across all BPs. BPs of T1, would need Minerals found ONLY in Ore from High Sec. While T3 BPs would need Minerals found ONLY in Null Sec.

So if you only wanted to PvE, you wouldn't need T2 or T3 stuff, and wouldn't need to leave High Sec. But if you wanted better items or ships, you'd need to venture out into Low and Null secs to get the items needed to craft those items.

Could limit it even more by having T1 ships flyable in all sections, but T2 and T3 can't enter High Sec, and T3 can't enter High or Low Sec.

Basically ways to 'Isolate' stuff away from High Sec, or have it where the other stuff in the PvP zones aren't needed in High Sec or not worth getting and keeping in High Sec. Putting limits on Missions in High Sec where you couldn't use T2 ships or something like that.

Yeah, I saw it, but you may as well have a simple solution for a simple problem: If a player takes on zero risk, it makes sense they get zero reward.

So, essentially, taking a single shard game, with it's major selling point being that everything happens in the same universe and anyone can affect anything, and splitting it into three servers (apparently while also putting wormhole space in the bin?)

Or is it only a complete and total rebalance of every single blueprint and item in the entire game? Roll

Not 3 servers, but more Restricts of what is allowed in each Class of Secter. Like how Captital and Titans can't enter Low or High Sec, or that Warp Distruption Fields don't work in high sec and so on. They already have some 'Balances' to keep High, Low, and Null different. It would just need to be more extreme if they made High Sec PvE only.

To balance out that you would be able to get a LOT of resources from High Sec easily by bots and alts freely now. So splitting the items into Tiers and keeping everything not basic out of High Sec would mean those in High Sec would be safe, but not able to get much in the way of expencive or rare items so everything in High Sec would be dirt cheap and not making much items. A Venture or T1 Frigate would go from costing a few mill to costing a few thousand only.

OR, the other side. Have the prices for everything not T1 skyrocket while having the items found outside of High Sec worth much more to get people to venture out and get it to afford anything not T1.

So first idea I brought up, would basically be a full rebalance of every single Blueprint and item in the game, their worth, and how to collect the minerals and such to make those items.

Or could have done my second idea, basically having a Seperate 'Demo' / 'Casual/PvE' version that is cut and not part of the main game in any way, or have any impact.

Ok first of all learn how the game works please, Titans and Capitals can, in fact, enter Lowsec.

Secondly, there is a HUGE difference between "this module does not work in this area of space" and "There is now absolutely 0 risk for anything in this space ever because damage is disabled against players".

Also, are you suggesting that markets be removed from the game altogether? Because as it is right now, the materials for T2 ships can only be found in low/null, and T3 components can only be found in wormholes. Hisec already only has the basic T1 Ores and nothing else. So if you don't want the people in hisec to be able to use T2 and T3 items, you're either going to have to disable the ability for them to be bought and sold in hisec, or you'll have to restrict Hisec gate and wormhole access for T2-3 ships. Both of these ideas are absolutely ******** for multiple reasons which should be obvious.

Oh, and the prices and value of items are determined by players and the demand of the market. CCP can't just make "the prices of everything not T1 skyrocket" as you put it, that's not how it works.

One last thing, I highly suggest you go read the official CCP New Player FAQ, located here. This should help you understand CCP's stance on the issue.

Quote:

7.2 CAN I AVOID PVP COMPLETELY?

No; there are no systems or locations in New Eden where PvP may be
completely avoided.
The safest systems are the ‘rookie systems’ where new
players start their journey in EVE. In high-sec systems, you are less likely
to be attacked since CONCORD will exact retribution on pilots who attack
another pilot without good reason. But, for example, if you are flying a ship
with a high value cargo, a player may attack you to destroy the ship and steal
anything from the wreck if they think that it’s worth the effort. Such attacks
are known as ‘ganking’ and if the profit they’ll make is sufficient, pilots are
willing to accept the expense of losing their ship to CONCORD and having
their security status lowered for their crimes. So it will be up to a pilot to remain
vigilant wherever they may be flying and be ready for anything at any time.
