Teach a noob about abandoned towers

I found a small tower in low sec that didn't have any shields and no modules around it but was anchored and must have been online because when I shot it 200 times I barely did any damage. Next to none it would seem. But I went back two days later and it still had the small sliver of red on the shields that I had put there earlier.

So I'm guessing that means it has the current fuel type.

But what exactly will happen to the towers that don't have the new fuel blocks tomorrow?

Can I try to go scoop it?

Can I blow it up? Will it have shields? What kind of fire power will it need.

Could someone just ignore it and place another tower? (I am no where near being able to do that but thinking ahead if I'm sitting there trying to do something and others come along and drop a tower...)

I'm sure I'm missing questions.

Educate the noob please! Big smile
Thanks.

You can only blow it up, you can't scoop it. If it had any modules anchored you could scoop those after blowing it up. Blowing it up by yourself will take a bit of time.

You cannot place another tower at that moon until you blow it up.

There is also a separate forum area for POS stuff: Science and Industry

Control towers have huge amounts of HP. Depending on the size, you could be there all day shooting at it solo and not finish, even if it is offline.

Those who cannot keep up will be left behind, to watch from a distance. And those who stand in our way will not watch at all.

Gotta blow it up. no shields. show-info on the tower, divide that by your DPS, see how many seconds it will take to blow up.

shame we can' t hack into them... CCP!

If you have a problem with an offline POS occupying a spot you want and you don't have the time/firepower/friends to kill it yourself there is a group of people who will do it for you. Or for fun anyway. A bit like the A-Team, but not.

They might contact you if they see if this thread.

Should've gone to Spec Savers

apparently they are gonna change things down the road so towers that have been clearly 'abandoned' can be deanchored by people not in that corp, after they have sat unfueled for some period of time.. but there's no definate commitment to that yet so anything could happen.

in any case, your only recourse right now is to shoot it until it dies. the shield should not regenerate, but despite their being no 'bubble' the tower does still have a fully charged 'shield'

-- the shield bubble, and the 'shields' on the tower are not quite the same thing.. an offline tower still has shields

So an "abandoned tower" is a metaphor? Makes sense to me.

Not many since you can allways war dec the corp and shoot it all day long with your baddon, ;p
if the corp doesn't exist anymore to be decced you can petition the GM to remove the tower since it cannot be aggressed in high sec without a war dec.

I would love to use a feature that allowed you to "capture" an off-line tower - but that option doesn't exist - ho-hum

Shield is not the same thing as the forcefield.

The forcefield is the bubble you see. It cannot be targeted or damaged. It is only present when the tower is online.

Towers have shield, armor, and structure. Always. Whether the tower is online or offline doesn't matter. An online tower can have shield hardeners.

A single battlecruiser will take days to destroy a small control tower. I tried it, and gave up and recruited corpmates to help. With 2 battleships and 2 battlecruisers it took a couple of hours.

Thank you all for the help.

I guess I was mixing "force field" and shields and somehow thought they were connected. I was hoping that when it runs out of fuel that the shields would be off but sounds like it will just not regenerate.

Day's in a battlecruiser ..... /sigh

Maybe I'll try to hit up some of the locals... or make some friends really fast!

Well, at least some (many) of hi-sec towers that are offline are there because it's easier to front 100-200M for a tower, anchor it while the corp's standings are okay, and keep it around as a spare in case you outgrow your current tower (or towers). Especially if you had to pay someone in the first place in order to anchor the tower(s).

If you don't do it that way, then at some point you either have to force everyone to grind standings so you can anchor additional towers, or you have to boot everyone out before DT, then invite them all back in after DT. Then anchor the new tower(s).
