Mission NPC's

I like doing missions in EVE to gain LPs and isk, but doing so I find the mission NPCs a bit clunky and not as realistic like pirate NPC's in minefields who warp in each wave. Or like the NPC mining corps when attacked fly off and send in reinforcements by warp, instead of just spawning out of thin air.....I mean space. It would make the game seem more fluid and interactive in my opinion.

When you go to a mission you initiate by warping to it, you know you are in a fight. You also know subsequent waves are going to occur, and being delayed with invulnerable error messages trying to lock things before they finish warp would be irritating.

Belt rats moving about the system and coming into the miners belt, the delay whilst the rat is in warp serves a purpose of allowing the miner time to make a decision about what to do.

Most mission runners want predictability. Missions are a job, not a high risk adventure. CCP has new AI currently being play tested with the Blood Raider Shipyard event so we will have smarter NPCs that adapt to player tactics in the future. It is likely this AI will be used for events and open space encounters - leaving missions as predictable ISK farms.

I think we are in the first few steps of a major pve overhaul. I hope missions get a big remake but be patient. This **** takes years.

You have never seen a jump ship arriving have you? Nothing there and you blink and well there they are.
Never been in a PvP battle I suspect because when the reinforcement waves arrive it is the same way, you think the battle is going well and you will be victorious, then you blink and there is another group of ships shooting at you and all of a sudden the battle is not going so well.

Wondering just how you think CCP should handle the arrival of these waves of ships?
What type of warning that they are coming in do you think we need?

As for missions, these ships just appear in front of me, which looks very bot like as if I was running an EMU server and just scripted them using console commands. All I'm asking is to have the ships warp in, as like the NPC Corp Mining operation ships. I blast them, they warp off, then in 10 secs a fleet of combat ships warp in, giving the effect of a real interaction. If I shot the mining ships, and they just disappeared, then combat fleet reappeared, wouldn't that just look cheap? If you get my point.

But as one poster said CCP is going through some AI overhaul, which is due for the game being over 12 years old. Seeing the same missions from year one, as in year 12 feels neglected in my opinion.

FYI OP missions have already gone through two pretty significant overhauls since the start of the game. Also it's year 14 now, not year 12... >.>

Not all NPCs are supposed to have warped into the pocket, and it's just generally easier for the mission system to have NPCs appear rather than using the warp effects from a belt. Also easier from a balance perspective as well, since that delay time doesn't have to be factored into the mission balance, especially in Low and Null where people are more free to speed run with smartbombing fits and the like.
