Since the citadels came out the test server declined into "spam online". Everyone had to put up a keepstar into 6-CZ49 so they can dock their sooper doopers and it became an unbearable mess of citadel spam.

If you review the DEV post, This was a test on how having multiple Citadels in the same system effects server performance and was intentionally set up this way by CCP.

Let's throw any expectation of realism out the window, shall we?

As everyone starts out in Eve Online (Tranquility) with a Trillion Free ISK, Perimeter will look just like 6-C.

*The test server (sisi) is strictly for whims of ccp.
**"Affect" is a verb, "effect" is mostly commonly used as a noun. ($10.99)

The test server is also used by tournament teams for the purposes of testing and scrimmaging because doing so on TQ is literally impossible. The isk costs alone would be prohibitive. And then you would get randoms that decide it would be cute to crash your practice session with titans or some such.

Sisi is actually vital for tournament teams.

Thought they had an opportunity to do so on Duality, because tbf, doing so on a regular CA on Sisi would be next to impossible as well.

Can't even see the point of it unless the AT is held on a server with a much higher tickrate and other specially coded features

The citadel spam is somewhat real. I do think that without it there would be increased risks of perimeter crashing and causing even more QQ than 2 dozen people being unhappy with citadel spam. I also think that citadel spam can be easily avoided, even more so if you are in a subcap. Capitals mostly rule CA1 and if you want to avoid citadel spam CA3-9 are almost exclusively empty. I also think the decrease in players comes from a larger set of factors. There used to be rivalries with two groups that played regularly whereas now there's just one "bad guys" group with the added randos. In addition, over the life of the mirror less people come on as their supers get blobed and people lose reasons to login. On the flip side goons login for training every Saturday, and nothing like this ever really happened before. It's more of an odd evolution cycle than anything.

I didn't realise the purpose of the test server was for mucking about in supers and shitting on randos.

Can confirm it's been like this since 2014. It's also practice grounds for..... wait for it..... not AT....... but multiboxing dread bombs.

Doesnt mean they had to use the main testing system to have the 100+ keepstars up. Kind of defeats the purpose of testing things in there when the lag is so thick insects get stuck in it. They could have made 6-c like Jita with no citadels able to anchor and just use the system next door for the citadel testing spam. So the answer to performance is copious amounts of lag and a variety of strange bugs.
