Idea: Saving your UI Setup

Hey fellow peeps.

I have been thinking a while about this. Since this game is so customisable in terms of how you play. Why not being able to save the state your UI is in? So you could have different kind of UI's for different kind of situations. What i mean is, i guess i'm not the only one having a bunch of windows up all the time while i play, because i want them to be there or need quick access to them or what not. Like D'scan, local, different chat windows, fleet etc. If you have multiple alts you always need to move things around to fit the current situation.

This could also help people who are new to the game, having them pick 1/4 premade setups, to be more aware of the surroundings etc. Since it is a important point of the game. Because now when you first start the game you only have a tiny local window to the left of the screen, and that's about it. I think it should be in the opportunities list.

It would be a really simple solution to make it even more handy, to be able to save your setup for different kind of situations. What do you think?

Sorry for my bad english and if its the wrong forum.

Yes please, this guy gets it.

I'm convinced the UI harms player retention more than any other factor. Anything helps.

And please, let me use a global setting for -all- accounts and charaters. Manually copy-pasting my setup is one of the most needlessly complicated thing I ever did.. once. I can't get myself to go for it again!

(In the meantime, anyone has a working tool that does that?)

Certainly agree, mostly with the ability to save your profile across all accounts.

@Yebo, I suggest you examine Symbolic Links:
https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/16226/complete-guide-to-symbolic-links-symlinks-on-windows-or-linux/

My suggestion would be to copy the profile file that you like to a folder one layer up (I'm not at my gaming pc atm so I don't remember the folder structure) and then rename it to something generic. Then make note of all of the correct file names, replacing them with symlinks to the generic one.

What will then happen is every character will literally use the same UI profile, any changes will propagate across them. It's something on my to-do list, though I admit I have not tried it nor have I fleshed it out any more than the above.

This sounds to me like 'Issues, Workarounds.. " material. What?

There are workarounds.

The one I know is about as fun as chewing trough your left wrist.

A really good example is Runescape, where you can customize your UI as you want and save it in different states. You press ESC and you have a dropdown menu for different type of scenarios. I really think CCP should add this. I don't even know why you can't save the profile you have on all accounts like you people have said in previous posts. They should really add this, i guess we are not the only one having our own. I don't even think its hard. If you can save your overview settings why not the whole UI. Or something.

Btw, thanks for the correction-move.

There is a way but it requires finding correct files by try and error, copying and renaming them. Ofc. it's not one settings file, you need to edit 3 for one account. And they all named "5467y435534356" which, for convenience, translates to a readable name in hexadecimal.
