It depends on what you need. You have to sell the mined ore somehow, and if no one wants your mercoxit... It will take time to get it to the customer. And time is money. If you are in null, your corp knows, what to mine. It can be mercoxit, but not always.

Mercoxit is the only ore that is NOT harvested at the same yield as the other ores!

If you want the effective ISK per m3, so you can compare prices, you have to normalize the price of Mercoxit.

I've not done the math recently, but last time I did Mercoxit was effectively only about 55% for comparison purposes.

Example:
* Ore 'A' is worth 50 ISK, and ore 'B' is worth 35 ISK.
* You activate your lasers on asteroid 'A' and asteroid 'B'.
* After one cycle, you have 1 unit of ore 'A' worth 50 ISK and two units of ore 'B' worth 2 x 35 = 70 ISK in your carghold.
* Ore 'A' is worth more, but you harvest less of it, so ore 'B' is a better choice!

^Mercoxit may not be mined in the same yields, but it's also the only ore that ignores the 100:1 compression rate, having a 40,000:1 compression rate (4000m3->0.10m3). Yield-wise, it may not be the most valuable, but as for shipping, mercoxit can be one of the most valuable things in the game.
