I guess they just thought it'd look neater with each individual turret having it's own icon image thing. I don't have a problem with it myself, but I don't look at them much since I fly Caldari which means **** your turrets, I use missiles.

CCP doesn't understand it either. That's why they keep releasing shoddy stuff like this.

We are getting the old icons back, though. Or to be more exact: Torfi Frans said we would get them back.

It was nice to have the icons actually match the gun itself for once but I'll admit they are a bit harder to see.

Like mentioned above though there are reverting them,

They looked good and there was nothing wrong with them. This was of course totally unacceptable to CCP so they "fixed" them.

Also they wanted to attract new players in the 5 - 9 year old age group, thats why they were made cartoon-ish.

Unfortunately having cartoon-ish graphics clashes badly with the graphic style of Eve. One may even say they stick out like balls on a dog.

The turrets are a fascinating example of unwanted and strangely executed iteration. No one was compaining 'damn, those turrets look horrible, I'm canceling my subscription' but a lot of effort was put into making new turrets. While the turrets look nice there is no connection at all between the graphics and what they represent. It's like a bunch of graphics designers were asked to design a sci-fi looking weapon and the results were randomly linked to existing ship weapons.

Let's take a look at small hybrid weapons. Long range railguns used to have a long barrel like look while short range blasters were short guns with massive muzzles.

75mm gatling rail: First, no gatling to be seen. There are two large magnetic coils with no barrel mechanism anywhere in sight.
125mm railgun: two short barrels, both much smaller then the 75mm coils
150mm railgun: a long barreled gun which looks about three times larger in caliber then the 125mm one

Light Ion Blaster: looks like a classic blaster in a retractable mount
Light Electron Blaster: like the Ion blaster except massively bigger. Which is odd as it is uses much less grid and cpu.
Light Neutron Blaster: Smaller then the Electron blaster even though it's the heaviest gun of all. Also it's in a completely internal mounting which is weird for the largest of the light blasters.

This lack of connection between form and function is seen in everything bigger as well. The 250mm Railgun has the longest range but the shortest barrel. The 200mm Railgun has two barrels like the Dual 150mm while the Mega Beam Laser has three barrels. Almost all projectile weapons have dual turrets regardless of type, with the 650mm Dual Repeating Artillery having two gatling mounts while the 220m Vulcan has one huge barrel.

On some occasions the design is correct, credit must be given to the 425mm Dual Autocannon which actually shows two of the smaller weapons combined into one mount. But on the whole it's a mess, a clear sign of multiple teams designing on different paths with no clear plan what they should make.

The game is rated teen and the turrets are more futuristic..

Guess instead of playing games you should get your eye checked. Could be a serious case of eye sight loss.

the new turrets are fine they look way much better on the ships than the old ones , it is the turret icoons that are confussing at first true , and the icoons next to your locked target need some work but overall the new turret effect are a improvement over the old one and i certainly do not want to go back to a time where your littel frigate is carrying 4 oversized guns , that kills immersion

But yes the icoons do need some work

the turrets themselves they are great

I do not agree with what you are saying , but i will defend to the death your right to say it...... Voltaire

Turrets can stay...somewhat.
But a dark or almost pure black turret icon in blackness of space is almost invisible. And that is pointless as it gets.

We have to strain our eyes to see if we even activated our turrets on a correct target, i did have some WTF moments asking myself who am i shooting at.

Some dev recently mentioned that they thought they'd look good (on their dev machines) but they didn't (on mortal machines) and thus they plan to revert them back some time in the future.

hmm i like the icons, at least in market and inventory they are just fine, only problem is in space. when activating them on a target then you just cant tell the difference anymore :(
