and not quite sure what to make of it. I BREIFLY looked into it and apparently I can play without a subscription with minimal things like skill queue is tethered to 24 hour. But what other restrictions would be for a returning player who is curoius to try this game after years?

You're only allowed to fly up to tech 1 cruisers (+navy variants) of your race. I also think you learn skills at half the rate you normally would if you were a subscriber.

*cracks nuckles* Ok, SO an alpha is basically a forever- type trial of the game, meant to entice new players to pay to go to omega. As an alpha you have limited ships to ONLY the faction you chose, and can only train for 1 month in 24 hour periods, until it will cut training completly (well from my experience thats how it works). you cant fly ships higher than cruiser or battlecruiser (cant remember up to which one) and maybe some navy issues not sure, an Omega you get for paying for a subscription or using a PLEX, when you're an omega you have access to everything in the game.

your skills are locked to cruiser and below, however the gnosis requires no locked skills so it can be flown by alphas.

I think it is enough to get a basic feel for the game, but most of the stuff worth doing you will want omega. like the above poster said, it is a forever trial.

This might well be, if you are a returning player. Sooner ar later you will run out of things to train because all skills available to alfas are already covered. For genuine beginners it will take much longer than one month.

AH ok, I might tinker with what I have seeing as I haven't played in several years and I remember leaving due to changes made that I didn't care for, now of which I completely forgotten about :P. So I will see if I like what the game is now. Anyway thanks for the info!

I think I heard someone say 8 months of training time or so (and the 1/2 rate Alpha's train).

I was Omega then left so if I pay now, will all my skills I trained to lev 5 come back or do I have to train them again?

Alpha state doesn't remove any skills you may already have, it merely suspends the ones that don't fall into the alpha criteria.

Subbing reactivates any suspended skills and you can use them, and the stuff they enable until your sub lapses again.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.
