like this for example?

there are really many ocassions where info windows cover UI parts..
This drives me nuts, please fix it.
Info windows should NEVER ever interfere with underlying buttons etc. unless there is a REAL REASON to!!!

Yet there is no reason why I should be able to click the info window showing signal strength, whatsoever! Those are ALWAYS in the way for absolutely 0 reason.

Go into settings general tab and move the tooltip delay slider hard right. That will get rid of most of them including, unfortunately, the few you find useful!

Ditto. It actually does help a lot more than you can imagine. Tweak that slider, man.

"Tomahawks?"

"----in' A, right?"

"Trouble is, those things cost like a million and a half each."

"----, you pay me half that and I'll hump in some c4 and blow the ---- out of it my own damn self."

Thirding the slider tweaking. I moved mine just a little and this basically goes away as an issue.

Also if you think about this for just a minute you'll realize it's basically impossible to have a popup and have it never ever potentially cause a problem for the user.

"So remove all popups!"

Unfortunately they're one of the only really versatile and space efficient ways to display situationally useful or relevant information.

This is why UX designers drink.

Delaying their appearance doesn't solve the cause. Instead of having them appear on top of the signature, they should just appear to the side and extend out of the window. The same problem happens with the tool tip when you hover accidentally over the probes: unless you move your mouse completely away from the tool tip, it keeps blocking you from clicking on the other tab if you have dscan and probe scanner window in the same stack. If the tool tips appeared on the side, that would not be an issue. In turn, this could block the Probe Recall button, which ultimately shows how flawed this UI approach of splitting controls really is. There were no such issues with the old probe scanner UI that was concentrated and centered between the probes and scan results. But CCP has to try "new things". Roll

What I find interesting, however, is that this particular tool tip in the screenshot shows to the side of the probe window and extends out of it and does not show inside the scanner window like on the screenshot. I usually have my probe window on the right screen edge and there, this tool tip shows on the left side of the window; if I move the probe window to the left screen edge, it shows on the right side of the window. I wonder what causes this inconsistency between my client and his client.

As for useful information: If there was useful information in this tool tip in the screenshot, it would show what kind of signature it is. The other bits like how much strength you need for identification is only useful for the first couple of tries as a new player because you know that by heart after this point.

My ridicule, heavy criticism and general pale outlook about your or CCP's ideas is nothing but an encouragement to prove me wrong. Give it a try.

sure it is possible.
1) Popup should disappear once the mouse cursor left the area which triggered the tool tip
2) they should not be clickable. Click events should always be sent to the objects underneath it, this would solve most problems with them
3) they should be semi-transparent

  1. Quite often the popup may be forced to appear over top of the control it's triggered by, and forcing the mouse to ignore an overtop element is something that's rather difficult to get the mouse to do on quite a few UI systems because generally the mouse is only really *good* at figuring out what's directly under it.

  2. Sometimes you want popups to be clickable and you *never* want to be transmitting a click event to an obscured UI element. That's a recipe for "I clicked on nothing and my ship blew up" or some such pain and idiocy. If clicking on a popup is going to do anything it should just make it disappear.

  3. Is actually more graphically intensive than you'd think, isn't supported on a lot of lower end machines, can't be relied on is a UI function. This is why turning Aero on in Windows makes your graphics card spin up compared to having it off.

I'm sure there is a way to make those annoying tooltips not to be in the way CONSTANTLY.

Tooltips should generally not popup automatically but only when you hover mouse into right corner. This might not be doable in all cases but at least modules in inventory could behave this way.

They should have learned a lesson from Microsoft's experience with Clippy (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Office_Assistant). Tooltips that appear when you don't need or want them are annoying.

Microsoft at least offered an option to turn it off!

FYI bumping threads is against forum rules.

Check what you have the popup delay is set to in your UI settings. Set it to something other than zero, problem solved.

The pop ups are in equal measure useful and equally make you want to scream. Reducing the annoyance also reduces the usefulness.

If you think that is bad, try the skill queue, staring an alpha, and signing in to train it each day, makes one want to burn the computer when every skill you want to choose, gets blocked by a bloody popup.

So Keep popups, just teach them to be well behaved, and not the giant great dane slobbering in front of the TV waving its ass about.

This happens with modules all the time. I'll go to activate one but be blocked by the tool tip of the one next to it. Bad enough it blocks the view but it prevents clicking as well
