Assuming equally skilled pilots which of the Vigilant or Deimos is better for solo PVP & which is better for group PVP in null-sec.

All thoughts appreciated.

Deimos lends itself well to active tanking, hence making it a decent solo boat. Vigilant, with it's webifier bonus, is the better of the two in gang work. MAKE SURE YOU ARE NOT THE SHINIEST THING ON THE FIELD. You will be primaried. You will be primaried. You WILL be primaried.

Not a problem. Please keep in mind, there's a reason they call it the Diemost. making it work solo requires a heavy tank, and drugs aren't a bad idea.

In solo, it all depends what you do with it...

But in gang the Vigi is currently pretty bad.

The Vigilant and the Deimos are often compared but asides from being of the same hull, they act in two completely different roles. It's unfair to them both to try to compare them because of this.

But generally in small/micro gang/ Solo, if you want rails fly the Vigilant if you want blaster go with Demios. I have no clue about large fleets.

The Vigilant is faster, more maneuverable, and with its stasis web bonus, makes it a prime choice for a mid range kiter/ Screener (Anti-Support). Sure it does more deeps then the Deimos as well, but really its tank and cap life are poor in comparison. So keeping out of neuts and opposing dps should be a high priority.

The Deimos, has better tanking capability, passive or active. Mostly due to it's better cap and T2 Resists. It's better suited to be in the fray and absorbing damage. It's damage output is not comparable to the Vigi but it still hit like a truck. It has the added benefit of warping faster than a standard cruiser as well. It's more suited as an engager, or a semi-heavy cruiser tackle. As it can latch onto things and not let go. Just be ready to try to face tank DPS. Just keep in mind there are other ships that perform the role better as an engager, HIC's and so forth are better suited.

And that's not saying you shouldn't try and play around with a rail deimos or a blaster vigilant. Both are fun and have there uses but each play the role better by each other.

I would disagree with this, only to say that a more accurate statement would be it's outclassed by the current RLML scourge that is the orthrus.

When compared to the Nomen and the Sviples it sits where it should.

Deimos for solo, and for small gang.... Well Deimos too.

The bonused strength web imo doesn't makes for the lack of resists, the ****** cap, and the higher price tag, even the better agility isn't enough in my opinion to make a difference.

If you want a midrange damage cruiser, take something else (Nomen, OsNi, even rail Deimos, etc.) . If you want a dedicated webber / screener, get a range-bonused web platform (Hyena, shield Loki, etc.)

Vigilante in micro gang if you don't have an orthus. Solo will work as long as only 1 frigate in the blob that comes after you will find out how to overheat mwd.

Deimos great solo/ bait for small gang. Soaks 1k+ dps but it's committed to the fight until it or the enemy blows up. Once the enemies find out they can't break your tank, you get hotdropped.

As people mentioned, none is inherently better. If you or your gang want to brawl, go deimos, if kite, go Vigilant.
Brawl vigilant also possible if your "small gang" incorporates dreadnoughts. Dem 90% webs.

Dunno why pilots still call the Deimos - "DIEMOST".

Thing can be made to tank 1K DPS stable while pumping out 400dps. Also, they have the speed to slingshot alot of kiters into scam range.

Just stay out of capital ships drop range, don't put yourself in positions you cannot escape and you'll have alot of fun trolling pilots with a Deimos.

Vilgilant on the other hand. Great web bonus and have good speed, but too fragile for solo work if you compare to the Deimos imho.

You can also kite in a deimos, especially in a gang. Less utility/dps/speed but less paper tank.
