I have absolutely no ties to Goonswarm, but as others pointed out there where some scammers in the past who tricked people into giving them ISK.

Don't accept the offer if he is not willing to jump your stuff out to null. Once you have contracted all your stuff over and it is on its way to null you can safely pay the 500mil ISK and join them in nullsec.

The only sensible advice in this thread imo.

Wut?

Am i missing something or is this actually really bad advice?

If the cat was impersonating an actual recruiter it would fall under this,

2, B Passwords and Names.

No player may use the character name of another player to impersonate or falsely represent his or her identity.

Signatures wer cooler when we couldn't remove them completely.

Google 'Goonswarm recruiting scam'. You will find very interesting story Blink

The recruitment scams, and the public larfing about them, were a big reason Goons used to be considered the nasty and outrageous people of Eve. They were also considered the tasteless guys of Eve, but for other reasons. But that was around 2008 - 2011. Later they got civilized. But by that time a lot of other people were already copying them. So nasty, outrageous, and tasteless became just... meh, standard stuff.

Not sure what you mean. If you can trust anyone in EVE the it's your friendly New Order Agent
I completely trust CODE agents.

Trust them to take your money and then blow you up. Trust them to keep you bumped until their buddies show up. Trust them to say they are still (as if they've ever been) relevant in New Eden. Etc, etc, etc.

See. Lots of trust.

It's cute how you try to cheer each other up in the face of our superior killboard stats and all around supremacy.

You can cry all you want. The reality is that people in Highsec sing songs about our heroic deeds.

Hi, i will get straight to the point.....i am currently looking for a new corp/ home ...in the recruitment channel i posted my interest for looking for a new corp i was then contacted via private chat about joining a corp in the Goonswarm Fed after interesting me with what they could offer they made me apply via goonfleet.org once i registered i was then told that i was identified as a medium risk for some unknown reason to the alliance and in order to join i had to pay 500mil to get in the corp and alliance.

Is this common practice? as i thought i was a scam at the time... does anyone else know about this?

Thanks for reading

It is an in game scam. It is allowed as long as they don't break any of the EULA or Code of Conduct rules. If the person didn't say he's "an alt of X" or "member of a clan he isn't" or "recruiter for a clan he isn't" it's ok. If you have a lot of ISK, try it out,! It's like a "Nigerian Prince want to make you very rich scam". Also if you gave your API they will probably see your alts. Like when you have a "forum alt" or an alt in "TEST ALLIANCE Please Ignore", and they will probably not ignore that...

Please note that goonfleet.org is not affiliated with CCP in any way and thus be careful when giving them any private information or API keys or sending nude pics. Do not confuse RL websites even if they refer to EVE Online with the ingame content. If you scam outside the reach of CCP, local authorities have to be bothered with it and they don't have the time.

In 2013 Article 8 has been updated to further clarify our rules on impersonation of other entities in EVE Online. The old text pertaining to impersonation in Article 8 contained the following:

You may not impersonate or present yourself to be a representative of CCP or an EVE Online volunteer

This has now been updated to read as follows, for further clarification of our policy on impersonation of third parties in EVE Online:

You may not impersonate or present yourself to be a representative of CCP or an EVE Online volunteer. You may not impersonate or falsely present yourself to be a representative of another player, group of players, character or NPC entity.

So yes, if I say I'm a recruiter for Goonswarm and my alt is. There is no technical difference and I'll get "the spankering" from CCP.
The problem is that in RL law you need to have criminal intent to make the impersonation a crime. However in EVE online that does not have to prooven, only that person X syas he's person Y or a respresentative of such. Also they have to state that ingame.

PS: I'm not at all, it's just a bleeping example.

Why would you want to join an alliance where they instantly try to scam you? I hear Dreddit is still recruiting, and they aren't allowed to scam newbros.

It is an intelligence test.

If you fall for it, you are a moron, and they won't recruit you.

The Goons recruitment scams are so infamous, you have to be really silly to not have Googled it, or how to properly join.

Never pay to join a corp, and always set collateral to at minimum the item(s) value with courier contracts (add at least 10% to the value for replacement inconvenience).

Well, I don't know the specifics of that particular incident. In doubt report it and CCP will evaluate neutrally with all information.
