I've read about TEST rental policy. It was 2.5bil per month and was a couple of years ago. The price may have increased.

Be warned that renting space in null is just an agreement between players.. that is, if the other party decides to just take your money and not honor the agreement, they can do so without fear of repercussions from CCP.

If you trade in modules/ships/raw mats, the landlords usually devalue it for some percentage for a net loss to you, so do try to deal with ISK only. From what I hear/read, the usual range is in the multi-billion range.. the most profitable systems, they keep to themselves for their members.

Read alot, read past posts from the groups/people you are dealing with. Talking to other renters is also in order, specially the more active ones. Finally, you might just want to consider just joining them -owners or renters- to enjoy their space and organization.

One alternative is to join a corp that is renting space in null themselves. Most either have a hearty tax rate and/or per-member monthly fee, typically less than 100m based on the mobile depot ads I see.

Another is to join a large Alliance corp that has no CTA requirements and just keep your head down and rat/mine. They probably won't take note of you unless you're using capitals.

While it's great to see a new player wanting to jump in the deep end, I'd suggest in this case to ease your way in.

As above, join a null renter corp so you can study the logistics of how it's done. Then, when you are ready, make a corp (or at least find a group of like minded players) that's ready to go as soon as you sign the agreement. Keep in mind that most of the time what you are paying for is a place to do whatever it is that you want to do. Not protection.

Lots of great advice here. There is just so much to understand, about null life, before you try to take the world. Getting things in and out of the systems will be one of your biggest time syncs/costs. (which a corp or alliance should have a plan/service for)

Being in a corp that has intel channels will save you a lot of headache as well. If people find you in your little renters pocket ratting, mining or exploring they will hunt you non stop if they can get some kills.

There is a good chance that the pocket you are in won't be upgraded either. Sov upgrades cost billions of isk and even then you have to be able to hold or increase the index's in your systems.

I would question why you wish to rent. If it is because you have a fantasy of planting your own flag in the sov game, I can understand that, but will caution you that that is a big boys game. If you instead just want to live free and happy in the Space Wild West, then you could instead try joining one of the highly engaged newbie corps that most of the major nullsec entities maintain (Karmafleet (Goons Newbie/Vet Corp), Pandemic Horde (PL Pets), and even Brave Newbies are great places to start.

Your experience in those corps will often be far kinder and more fun than a normal renter corp by virtue of the fact that they have dedicated programs for new players and/or aren't everyone's ***** like most renter corps are vs hostiles.

Then of course there is NPC null - all the risks of nullsec with nothing close to the benefits of sovereign null What?

May I suggest the following:

Based on what you want to do (Shoot rats? Mine?) take a look around NPC nullsec for systems that might support said activity. There are a few systems out there with ice belts, etc. The trouble is you will likely find somebody else is already living there and they may or may not be friendly.

The point is try it first. Get used to the differences. Learn the habits you will need for survival - remember you are always a target, always being hunted.

Another option would of course to go spend some time in Providence. The coalition who own most of it operate an NRDS policy (Not Red Don't Shoot) so they don't shoot neutrals on sight. While this does not make it "safe" it does reduce the risk a bit and make it easier to get to know the area, try things out, etc.
